Hey I thought my clutch was slipping but lately it hasnt been doing it anymore. When I downshift and a little boost into the mix, sometimes it like "flutters" (i dunno if thats the appropriate but it sounds good) or hesitates and then after I smell what I thought was a clutch. Anyways, killer said to NOT have a dyno tune till its fixed but it sounds like putting in a clutch can be a PITA so I might not be able to get it done soon, especially since I still cant decide what clutch I need. If I buy a ADJ quadrant/firewall adjuster and cable, will that help me if my clutch is slipping for now?I really want to get my car running good soon.

Powershift second gear and if the RPMs rise and you are not picking up speed then that is your problem (a slipping clutch). Clutches are pretty easy to change, I can do mine 1 hour out, 1 hour in. And the quadrent thing will not give you any extra life if the clutch is already slipping.

mark has obviously done a few of them - most folks take quite a bit longer (i bet he has the size of every bolt memorized and the order of what to remove down pat).

another method is to put it in 4th and lug it (like 25 MPH, but depends on gearing). mash the gas and see if the RPM's rise in the absense of acceleration.

good luck.

That test is the one where you go "oh f@#%... what's that smell?" As every gear starts slipping like a mofo.

The 1-hour out, 1-hour in, that sounds about right . My personal best is 45 minutes from a standing start to have the tranny out next to the car. That was *with* a helper (some things go much smoother with a helper, like the driveshaft bolts, and manhandling the tranny down on a floorjack ). Probably figure the better part of a Saturday if it's your first time.

The way I've always checked for slippage is to go WOT at low RPM and high gear, like 4th or 5th. That's usually when you'll catch it slipping first, in my experience. Most of the time I've experience slipping on hard shifts, it's been quite awhile before the clutch actually started to slip noticably at any other time.

Dave, we know how JR feels about this method. probably not wise when the motor overburdens the trans, but for most of us, it works.

I trued both of these ways and I guess my clutch isnt slipping. Anyone know what this is? When I get on it all is well until i reach like max boost(12#'s) then the car is kinda jumpy. Could it be my belt slipping?

I noticed my clutch slipping when putting into 5th gear at 35MPH and flooring it. RPM's would shoot up but the car wouldn't go anywhere.

try to drive from a dead stop in 5th gear. if your car drives its shot if not its not. does that make sense?

After installing my FTI combo a week or so back...I get a burning smell when I hit 3500+ rpms (under WOT)...and it goes away once I put it in a cruising gear...I have a one year old NAPA stock style clutch...do you think it is on the verge of slipping...?...I'm checked gaskets and hoses and nothing seems to be that smell...plus a burning hose, gasket, etc...wouldn't just appear when the power is starting to come on and then go away almost immediatly after quiting the "WOT"?
