I bought a 88gt with mass air conversion and the other day after doing a tune-up and adjusting the fuel pressure I reset the computer by unhooking the neg batt cable(is this right?) Ever since that the car dies on the first try and on the second I have to give her a little gas and than its fine. Someone suggested putting a newer ecu in and I just wanted to know if I can tell by looking at it or a part # if it still has the stock sd one in it. Sorry for the long thread and thanks. :flag:  :flag:

All manual transmission cars have the A9L computer, with the exception of the 93 Cobra I think. Automatics have the A9P Computer. The A9P will work with a 5 speed, but the A9L must be used only with a 5 speed. I heard the A9P has a more aggressive fuel curve but I have talked with a few people that have 5 speeds with the A9P, and have noticed no difference. I doubt it is the computer going out. Check the plugs, cap, rotor, wires etc before you drop a chunk of change on a CPU.

if you did a conversion or one was done, you could have gotten another computer also.

there is an a9s or something like that ford produces now that are the same. what does yours say? i can see what my old sd comp says if you have something different still.
