How to launch to get 5.1/5.2 0-60?

How are the mags getting a 0-60 5.1 time? Are they power-shifting or just shifting into 1st and hitting the gas. Should I dump the clutch? Would I have to power-shift *cringe*. Should i dump at 2k or 4k RPMs or not at all. Should I ease the power into the clutch or just contact and dump, etc. etc.

If they are 'powershifting' its being a little dis-honest as most performance figures are not generated that way.

However I don't think they are but how knows.

Apart from that its a case of putting maximum power to the groud with out over spinning the wheels and/or slipping the clutch. How you do that is up to you. But it should be a combination of all of the factors while not letting the engine bog down.

why do you need to know your 0-60 times anyway?
1/4 mile times are all that matter
Not necessarily , on the road 30-70mph times are usually much more informative of how quickly a car can over take (or a side by side race from a roll).

A nice example is a fairly quick car like an 05 Monaro (GTO) with 400bhp manual gearbox takes about 4.5 seconds to go from 30-70mph.

A fast car like a TVR Sagaris will do it under 3.5 seconds.

And a really fast car like a McLaren F1 in about 2.1 seconds

Remeber the variance here is much greater than 0-60mph times, as the speed difference is only 40mph.

Depending on how the engine delivers the power can affect the results, hence one car may be quicker under this circumstance yet still be slower 0-60mph.

Its never a simple answer.

If you look in the back of the mags where they have the performance stats for all the cars they've tested, it states that they use lift throttle shifts at all times.

Both Road & Track and Car and Driver spelled out the launch procedure they used in their '05 Stang road tests. R+T dropped the clutch at 2500 RPM and floored it right after launch, and C+D dropped at 4K and waited for the tires to catch. Near as I can tell, Motor Trend just makes their numbers up (not corrected for anything last time I checked). Neither of the mags speed shift.

I launch at about 3,200 with a clutch drop, let the tires catch and then floor it, and I also don't speed shift. Obviously not the fastest launch possible, but still fast.

Jim at Procharger launched (STOCK wheels and suspension) with drag radials at 4 grand, powershifted 2nd, and lifted for the rest, but DID shift at 6200. Stock tires will not take this, as you know. All I can say is get COMP T/As or slip it off the line and hit it.

This is just an example. His was blown, and running 11.70s.
