I have 2 10" Mtx subs that are each 12 ohms. I also have one mtx801d mono amp with two speaker outputs. Could i just wire each speaker into one output and get plenty of power to run them well? It puts out 800 watts rms at 2 ohms. Would that give me a 6ohm load and would it be safe for the amp?

If they are single voice coil (SVC) subs, the lowest ohm load the amp is going to see is 6 ohms which won't really give you much power since it runs max. @ 2 ohm.

If they are dual voice coil (DVC) subs, the lowest ohm load the amp is going to see is 3 ohms, which will give you pretty decent power for 10's.

i think single voice coil subs are all only 4 ohms, and dont think you can bring them down to 2 ohms because in ordor to get 2 ohm load you have to wire the 2 subs toghther, and then you would need a 2 ohm stable amplifier.

You can get SVC's in other ohm loads, although I have never personally seen a sub that was 12 ohms. But all companies make them in other ohm loads besides 4....generally they are 2, 4, and 8. Those are the most common ones.

yep these subs along with 1 other 10" mtx came loaded by the manufacturer in a box with plexiglass in the rear. all 3 are 12 ohm wired in parallel which gives the combination a nice 4ohms to work with. its quite old i believe
