How ugly is the Mustang II?

well i liked the 71-73 machs ...two family memebers had them back in the day and i remember ridding in them...first taste of muscle as a youngin so i hold them dear to me...the when the II's came out and up to 86 i lost all respect for mustangs i thought they looked terrible the 87-93 i over looked too until like 89-90 when they started using pony wheels and that helped the looks by a 100% then i liked the aero nosed fox's...the 94-98 sn's are my favorite...growing up i always wanted a 94-95 and i kinda settled with the 93 because it was availiable but finally late last year i got the car i always wanted so im happy

I know I could find things I hate about Mustangs of any generation or body style!

However, I guess I must be an "Idiot" or a "Fool" or a "Bastard", cause I own one, that's got a few mods. I also own a 94' gt w/ bolt-on's. Let me tell you, the reason I drive Mustangs at all is because of my 1975' Mach 1 V8. A lot of people talk trash about these cars. Ford's biggest mistake was calling it a Mustang II. That II behind the mustang badge undermines the car's credibility. These cars are still mustangs, and yes, has fords legendary 302 engine. Ford sold many of these cars, they were very popular in the mid 70's. The car was state of the art, in a lot of ways. I believe this was the first production American car to have Rack & Pinion steering, some, like mine, had upgraded front & rear sway bars. Additionally, These car sat fairly low to the ground, so they generally handled well.

These cars were refined w/ respect to to interior ergonomics and sound deadening! and build quality. The car had a very solid, quality "feel" , comparable to high end "expensive" cars of that era. The Opec/ Gas-Crunch thing that happened in 72' or 73', tempered some of the performance of the V8. However, the car was still torquey, and could easily smoke tires, goin' down the street, w/ the stock engine w/ 2-barrel carb.

I've had mine since 1989. when I was in college and poor, I managed to install a Lanati cam, Full tube hdrs, Flows , Edlebrock intake and Carter AFB carb, oh yeah, and a super coil. The car was a blast to drive. Most of my buddies (driving Chevy's) would talk that B.S. would get schooled!!! Non of us had blowers or anything, but we had a lot of fun, until they lost, which was frequent! I guess what I'm saying is "don't knock it tell you try it" If you have driven one of these cars, you would know they drove and handled way better than there predecessors. They were not nearly as fast stock(no gt 390's or Boss 302, or Eleanors). Just imagine if Ford had squeezed a cobra jet engine into one of these!!!!! Less weight, more power!!!! = more speed!!! My car is a 2 tone red & blk Mach1 . I'm in the slow process of converting to fuel injection, I have most of the parts, plus computer & harness. I also have a new turbo, I think it's a T-70 or similar. I have big plans for this car, I'll have to get some pics together to post, for those who would like to see the end results. I will be doing some mods to the suspension, wheels & tires, paint & body + plenty of go fast!!!

the king cobras were nasty looking about as bad as 79-86 those are hideous....but i have seen a 302 mustang 2 that was all black with a nice cowl hood some welds my friend used to own and i didn't think it was too bad

OUCH!! Well you wouldn't know mine was a 86 because all you would be seeing is tail lights.
