IM just saying... WITH ONLY THE HEADS NO OTHER MODS 200rwhp is a good estimate. You guys think this thing is going to breath with a stock intake, air box, 4 cats and headers your couldn't suck a milkshake through.

thats true, with totally nothing else i can see that being it.

The 95' Cobra, with the GT-40 heads, has a bigger intake, throttle body, and cam then the HO motor, and it has 245hp at the crank. Logic alone is going to tell you that putting those heads on a stock HO motor is not going to yield 270rwhp. When people are talking about putting down 270rwhp, they are talking about doing it with late model Explorer GT-40p heads. Probably heads that have been worked over quite a bit.

Not necessarily Kurt. It's possible to get 260-270rwhp with unported GT40 heads but you'd also need the GT40 intake, 1.7 RR's, CAI, MAF, 65mm TB, pulleys, and headers-back exhaust. There are GT40P combos putting down around 280 and if those heads are ported, 300rwhp is possible.

Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

I'm saying it can't be done with a stock cam. You'd be pushing it without port work.

It can but much depends on the other supporting mods that have been added. I've seen several dyno sheets of GT40 head/intake combos putting down 270ish with the stock cam/1.7 RR's, and Tmoss' GT40P head/Explorer intake combo with stock cam advanced 4 degrees put down 277/330.

I gotta tell you guys

Yes the p heads are better than the regular 40's
but
IMHO ... they ain't really all that much better

E7's ... 40's ... or p's .............
all those OEM iron heads have the same thing in common

It don't take a lot of effort to sink so much money in em

For just a bit more you could step up to Aluminum's
and
Have a way better chance of obtaining 300 or a bit more

I think the best bang for the buck is to run 40's or p's stock
then
If you wanna step up ... Sell em for what you paid for em

That is ... If you bought em right in the first place

anyway ... Sure you can do 270 rwhp with 40's or p's
especially
If we are talkin dyno results with a STD calibration

Not doubting the numbers.....I'd just like to know what "pretty much stock" means. Adding 30-35rwhp isn't exactly something that's accomplished with a K&N filter and an O/R H-pipe.

well i did have other 5.0's there with the same mods (foxes actually) and they didnt put down that much. Even the guy dynoing it said those were pretty high numbers for that car. Factory freak? Either way IDC anymore because I have the red one which makes 320RWHP but thats really not close to stock so w/e lol

That's what I had on my 93' when I got 224rwhp. Except I didn't have cats. Dynoed it a few miles up the road at Outlaw Performance.
