i would get a spare one from the junkyard that you can hack up. that boot is for noise and heat suppression - you will notice its omission.

good luck.

What specifically is the problem? The Hurst shifter installs that I have done went smooth except when I tried to put the metal frame boot on without removing the center console. It worked one time, but not another. Otherwise it should slip over the shifter and bolt down.

Dumb question that I gotta ask. Did you remove the stick before trying to slip the boot/bracket back on so that it doesn't catch on the stick mounting bolts?
If not you will have to work the boot past those bolts.

You shouldn't get dirt into the shifter without the boot/bracket if you installed the boot that Hurst supplies to wrap around the base of the shifter. The boot/bracket that bolts to the transmission tunnel keeps crap from coming into the car and also works as a noise isolator.

Glad to hear it.

You'll find it shifts so much better than the stock unit.
