I got my SVTF pump..now drilling holes in the basket???

I got my whole assembly today. Paid $171 total and met up with the guy who got it from his work. Now all I have to do is drop the pump in my basket right? What about drilling the basket for more fuel? Yay or nay on that??

What are your plans/future plans for the car? If you plan on using a power adder in the future you need to drill at leat one 1/2in hole in the basket. If you dont drill the hole anytime you get on it and the fuel level is below 1/2 tank you will most likely trigger lean codes like I did. Basically what happens is the pump flows more fuel than the single check valve can and then drains the basket because the fuel level is below the top of the basket. When this happens the computer widens the injector pulse width to attempt to compensate for the pressure drop of the pump and once the pulse width exceeds the limit the lean codes show up. There is also the possibility of loosing your engine because of the lean condition too.

Also next time you need a real ford or motorcraft part call tousley ford.

Yea, that's the reason for drilling the holes, but I'm not sure at which point it is required to do that. I'm making 325 rwhp with no problems, and I know lots of others that are making more than that with no problems. I'm sure that this is a problem for higher hp applications, but I don't know where that point is.

Hmm, weird. Either prices have gone up, or I got a discount from Steve. Definitely call and ask for Steve if you need anything in the future. It took me half a day to get up with him, but he is VERY friendly and VERY helpful. He actually knows these cars and the mods we often do to them, unlike most other Ford parts guys I've talked to before. I got my SVT Focus pump from him for about $160 shipped. I'll by any OEM parts from them that I don't mind waiting a extra day or two for. Great prices and even better service. :nice:

Only if you run a ford gt pump 310lph or dual pumps. (see pic below)

BTW that's dual ford gt pumps and they run just fine with a few holes in the basket. And if I had them at 100% its = to 163 gallons per hour or 5.7 minutes to drain 15.5 gallons of gas out of the tank lol.
 
I didn't drill any holes in the basket when I installed my SVT Focus pump, and I didn't have any issues with going lean. The car put down 386 rwhp with that configuration.

Its kinda hit or miss if you need to drill the holes or not. I know a few people pushing 400 to the wheels with no holes and then there are guys like me who max out their pump at 360 with holes drilled. I was also having lean issues when the car had a vortech on it pushing almost the same hp but minus the holes.

To the OP I just drilled one 1/2in hole one inch up from the bottom in the front of the basket and have been fine ever since.
 
Only drill holes in the basket if you remove the pressure-return cap. (Run a direct line from the pump to the hat) I drilled holes in my basket and now I have to keep at least 1/4 tank to not run into fuel pressure problems.

Wish I had just swapped the SVT Pump in and made no other modifications.
