a 98 automatic GT , my previous Car , with a different owner now. anyways Mine NOW is a 2004 GT all Stock besides the steeda shifter and a mac CAI.
we started together , 1st and 2nd gear he was right next to me. Then he started moving away passing me by almost 2 to 3 cars. And thats how it ended. My question is , I'm installing the FRPP 3.73 gears this week. If i raced him again, on the same road and same distance , will i be able to beat him ??
how will it end.
thank you all

If the 98 doesn't have the pi swap you should have destroyed him even if your car was bone stock

I'm not so sure. I know he's runing on 3.55's and ummm MSD wires ..blah ..blah other then that I'm not sure. But anyways ....since he only pulled 2-3 cars ahead after i hit 3rd gear .will i be able to beat him after i instal the 3.73 only . If we will race on the same street with the same distance..thats my question.--------------> lets just say : we raced a MILE to a mile and half ...we launched together , stayed side to side. When i shifted to 3rd, he started to move forward until he got about 2-3 cars ahead.
now when i instal the 3.73 , and the exact same senario happens...will he still be 2-3 cars ahead?? or what do you all think would happen

If you dont plan on getting a supercharger or possibly running nitrous then i suggest you getting 4.10's instead of the 3.73's

Well it is very surprising to hear he beat you, and by 2-3 cars none the less. That means he has a LOT more power than you do. I hope he has the PI swap, because otherwise you need to practice driving. There is NO WAY an Non-PI GT would even touch your car. Let us know if you find out what he has.

Depends on far you guys race. I can almost guarantee you he has the PI headswap or he has ported NPI heads with the PI intake and possible the cams. I have a 96 GT with PI headswap and the PI heads ported and polished and mine pulls all the way up to 6000 now so depending on how far you guys race. The 3.73's should help you gain a lead earlier on how long u can hold the lead for IDK thats why it depends on how far you guys race. If he put 2-3 cars on you in third I think you should be able to hold him off pretty well but again really depends on how far you guys are racing.

I think he has the PI swap and a little more. I think ported heads and cams sounds more like it.

I don't know if the gears will be enough, 2 or 3 car lengths is a pretty good amount of lead to make up for. This could be due to major driveing problems, did you get smoth powershifts, or at least quick clean regular shifts? In my 98 gt I can just pull a PI 5 speed car, but not by more than a car or so (if the PI car has a good driver) if it doesn't the results are more like the ones you had. I've got a 2800stall, BFG Drag radials and 238 at the wheels, my big advantage comes right off the line (great traction). If you are driveing well you can bet he is packing a lot more than wires.

2-3 cars, well the gears will give you a slight edge off the line but thats assuming you can hook up, the gears make a difference on the launch and may hurt more there than help. once you are moving they wil help. the race will still be close. you should get the intial jump and lead but that other car seems like it has better top end. especially for being an auto. he has more than you think. those cars from the factory had about 225hp where yours has 260hp, plus he has a slushbox. so somewhere he picked up roughly 80+ hp seeing he put 2-3 cars on you.

No , its not my driving skills.I'm born to run manuals . Manuals is all i know.my shift were okay .anyways, I know for a fact he doesnt have NOS nor a power adder. everything else you guys mentioned could be true. and I'm pretty much guessing IT IS.That 98GT he's runing used to be my older stang which i sold to him . I sold it to him STOCK. But it was a pretty impressive stock GT.it had potential. Anyways hmmm i guess i got beat. But I'm the kind of person who brings it back Hard . so I guess we will be hearing PART2 from this story. After i instal my 3.73 and a cat back and U/D pulleys. I know he cant beat that. If he didnt get anything else done till that time.

very true. but if you are going too street race make sure you do it very late at night on a highway or other road with no traffic that can pull out of parking lots.

back years ago i was really getting on a cobra (i knew the owner and he wanted me too get on it and tell me what i thought of the car.) and this guy just pulled out of a parking lot and i was doing over 100 MPH ( very late at night) i almost did'nt stop in time. he pulled out and did'nt accelerate. i was lucky the car was a cobra my GT never would have slowed down in time. i slammed the brakes as hard as i could and slowed too almost a stop with the tires chirpign the whole way ( ABS tring too keep it from locking up) if i was any closer when he pulled out or going even a few MPH faster i would have had too put it into the gaurd rail too avoid a accident.

after that i will not go fast on a road where traffic can enter from the sides.

Then why on earth do you have ALL that $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in your car pushing 660RWHP? Just so you can run 10s at the 1/4 mile track? Its the thrill of beating guys on the street that makes me modd, and true having a good 1/4 is nice to have for bragging and stuff but what good is it? I tell you what, if im going to spend alot of $ then im going to use it to teach anyone who wants to be taken back to school, a crash course lesson in getting pounded LOL. I also like having the power, but on the street you cant even get on it or your defeating your purpose as it is just the same as racing...and the cops see it the same why...your getting on it they call it "racing", so I guess you only get on it at the track then? Man, i couldnt imagine being like you and not getting to use my power on the street . I would die LOL. Oh and to the newbie guy, yea if you can drive that guys is nowhere near stock...and gears will help alot, but I would go 3.73s if I were you...4.10s leave little room for progress in the 1/4 and on the street your done at 100MPH. I think they will help you, but they wont make you beat him, unless your shifting at a low RPM then 3rd wont pull too good and that why he would pull.
