hey guys i have been looking at all the 351 stuff on here and have a few questions,
1 what power levels is a 408 stroker capable of n/a i was thinking 450-500ish, of course with the right parts, i want to go fi so do i need a new comp or tweecer or somthing like that to manage the engine, for the most part i would like to stay n/a but i do no want to go sky high on compression for drivablity and future boost considerations

So my question is what will a 351 block hold in terms of power, what are good years models ect,

how much heavier is a 351 than a 302, i plan to go alum heads, and prehaps a tublar front in to offset the added weight

I see many have said that afr 185s or 205 are good but what would the min air flow numbers to let the thing breathe properly, i have dart pro 1's and they have a ton of room to be ported could i make them work??

also who has used the drop mounts and a stock hood becuse i will absolutly will not put a cowl hood on it so it has to fit, does the hood need to be modded, any other space issues??

is it possible to maintain my current a/c setup

thanks guys

408 strokers can make 550+ hp N/A AFR 205's preaty much needed to make that power. Perhaps well worked vic jr's. 351W will hold more power then the 302 block do. I would say 500-550 hp is safe bet. You want a 70-74 block they are the strongest. Barring that get a man o war block. I have heaer of people using drop mounts and getting a 351w to sit under a stock hood. I think you will be able to use your a/c perhaps you will need a different mounting bracket. Even with out drop mounts i had a 351w under a stock hood with a hole cut in it and a 1983 mustang scoop mounted on the hood. It looked sharp.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm planning a 408 build as well. I've been told that the 69 blocks are the best due to the high alloy content and they are like a 4 bolt main? A guy here dyno'd at the wheels on a mustang dyno with race gas and carb at 450 something and close to that in tq also. Mind you that a mustang dyno runs lower numbers then a dyno jet. I dont know what heads cam or carb he had? I'm going to go with 215? heads for mine and hoping for 450 HP/TQ at the wheels and around 600 with the bottle. peace

69 blocks are the strongest of the factory blocks but hard to find.
