someone put a metal support beam on both sides of the car, and were they bolt it appears that it was damaged. Is this something to worry about, cuz I don't want to leave them on. Need some jack stands...My roomate is supposed to get them but he is a bitch.

well I know that there frame support but I was just wondering about the damage he did by bolting the things on.

can you weld? if so, I recomend welding. It should make the car more rigid and stronger frame wise. also, once you get them permanently affixed, you can remove the bolt and fill up any holes the po left.

Its a picture taken from underneath the car, he was trying to show the metal plate that the PO bolted on to try and repair damage or cover it up

Sorry, but I have a lot of experience and that car looks like a goner. Anything added for structural integrity should be left alone unless you re ready to have the car collapse before your eyes.

"Timeless Wisdom #1 (below) says it all. You would be money and time ahead to find a BETTER CAR.

well.....

Lets see, the console is under the fabricated floor. It was made in 2 pieces, the floor and then the top section that is attached to every part of the inside of the car: kick panels(fab), rear seat area, console, trunk divider, etc. This guy was crazy....And like said earlier, it is a good thing that he didn't have a fetish with his welding gun, instead he went for a rivet. He probably didn't know how to weld. Thank god. Yeah the car does mean alot to me, had one 2 years ago and had to sell it because of college but know I want to do a ground up resto. thinking 2-3 years on this one. I have three auto shop buddies to help me. I just like to get as much feed back from people as I can. That is why forums are great cuz you usually have someone that has done something simuliar to what you are doing. And really just people to push you along.

I agree with Super Dave. Save your money and get a different one. Use the current one as a donor car.

Well, I don't know how bad it is, it is going to require a lot of work though. The first pic looks like some home made bolt in subframe connectors. At least the guy had an inking that his pop riveted floor (and screwed together floor, see first pic) wouldn't hold up. How about removing all the pop rivets and let us see what is left? Are we talking coupe? fastback? 'vert? Big problem is finding a transmission tunnel as I don't believe they make thos as repo parts. Another thing, do you want to restore or restomod? Road Race or Drag Race? How about a firewall back 2x3 tube chassis with roll cage and a Pro Street look? If you're restoring, listen to SD and get another car (unless you're like that couple year old Super Bowl commercial where the guy has cash comming out the wazoo...) But if the rest of the body is in okay condition, customize away and make lemonade from your lemon.

Ok, lets see if I can explain this. There is a transmission tunel if you look at the pic shown, he just covered the hole thing. Ok. He made a floor over the origional floor. The rockers are great condition. He didn't cut much of the origional floor out so it wouldn't be bad welding a new one in. I had a buddy look at the subconnecters and he said they were fine. They where for racing, the previous owner did drag. He put huge leaf springs in the back. He also covered the rear were the seats go, giving it a flat surface. I was worried to but the structure is sound. And it is not as bad under his work as I thought but I still am expecting the worse. Trunk and everything else looks ok right now but I will have to see after I finish stripping it down.

You are already making progress!! Keep cutting all of the BS out of there, and get the rust cleaned up....

That "subframe connector" is interesting......I would buy some weld-in ones.

You can say what you want about the guy who put all that metal work in place, but he DID do good work. Damn sight better than some of the stuff I've fabbed in the past.

Okay, it's a '67-'68 coupe or a fastback (I'm guessing coupe). Don't see any vestiges of a roll bar or cage. You've never mentioned what you plan to do with it. There's been some threads on here of a Shelby like rear seat delete, you've got a good start on one there, if it's easily removed, and you don't want it, someone in that thread may be interested.
