Hi guys...

I need your opinion/advice
I have the opportunity of buying a 1970 Mach 1 for a reasonable price. The owner told me that the front end received some type of a blow and it suffered suspension damage. He said it needs control arms and shocks. I only know basic mechanics and If I decide to buy it, I will take it to a mechanic shop to get it fix. I am attaching some pictures and maybe you guys can see if there is something else damaged.

I appreciate your help!

It's hard to tell from the angle, but it looks like the RH lower control arm may be damaged. I will tell you that there's an incredible amount of gunk on every exposed surface, so every gasket and seal in the entire car must be leaking. Also, there has been some pretty jingus metalwork done under there. There's a reason this car is being sold off for cheap.

Besides leaking oil for while, something looks wrong with the frame near the drivers side torque box "Mach1US41" (looks like something was welded there - with sloppy welds and is now rusting). Also there are some weird gaps and spot welds near the rocker panel.

Although most of my knowledge is with 1966 and 1967 stangs, so it could be something that belongs on a 1970?

depending on the deal... Id say if the frame looks straight and solid...who cares about the suspension. You can rebuild the entire front end of that car for $600 with just about new everything. I personally wouldnt drive the car like that but it looks like it would get you home fine. How do the body panels line up?

If you can get it cheap and are willing to put in some time, you can get it all fixed up pretty cheap. With any project, body and paint are usually the hardest. Just about anything else can be fixed on these cars with some basic mechanical skills and time.

It looks like the front seal needs to be replaced, but it probably went bad because the damper is either loose or out of balance. A lot of oil can get slung everywhere from just this one seal, but you should plan to completely re-gasket it.
