I sold Hack Job & picked up an 04 Cobra

All the IRS cover brace does is keep you from cracking the Diff cover. At your power level you need it ASAP! Even at stock power levels they need the cover as it flexes enough to leak :notnice:

To help with wheel hop on a Cobra you need the derlin diff bushings and better springs/shocks. I have never had wheel hop in mine and I have smoked the hell out of the tires. My 03 Vert I had in Hawaii had seriously bad wheel hop with the Goodyears and stock suspension.
Go to SVT Perfrmance and look up "red pill" and "blue pill". It is the whole kit for stopping wheel hop on IRS Cobras :nice:

You really need the oil PCV filter kit too. Your intake will inhale ALOT of oil otherwise. Kevin has to empty his every 300 miles with his twin screw :nonono:

Hmmm...sounds good, thanks Laser. My friend had an inline oil seperator on his Lightning. Where can I buy a kit like that??

I wonder if I could install those bushings myself? Does the differential have to come out, or can it stay in the car?

BTW...I just took it for a ride. It was dry today, I took two friends with me and I still have the 100 pounds of sand bags in the trunk. It still would not hook in 1st or second, but on the freeway I got to hammer on 3rd and 4th and man does it pull!! I was very impressed. It got past 100MPH too fast though...haha...I didn't even get to enjoy the pull because it got there so fast....hahaha

You can get them on Ebay they're like $40...or you can build it yourself from parts at Home Depot for about half that. The filter itself is just a water separator that you would used on an air compressor. All you need to do is get the correct barbed fittings for it to attach to your PCV hose and you're set. :)

Voila....:nice:

Sigh.......well I'm currently listing all my kids toys on Ebay. If I sell everything including my 86, take a second job, the wife a second job, and cash in the kids education savings I might be able to get a Terminator...........

My wife says I can get one (wanted a 2003 since the day they came out) if I can come up with the cash........she didn't say how

 Yeah, its funny cause its something I never thought i would complaine about but its true. The car accelerates so fast from 50-130 that you dont really have time to enjoy it :rlaugh:

I shopped for the seperator for a while. I looked at the cheap ones on ebay and looked at building one and saw the one at LMR. I didnt care for any of them and I have no skills to make a nice bracket so I ordered the one from Steeda. They were the only ones that had it in stock too. Steeda Oil Separator - Ford Mustang
It has a nice clean look, I saw 04sleepers in person and I liked it :nice:

Forgot, if it gets warm where you are at then you NEED the head cooling mod if you are planning on driving her hard. You are not supposed to do WOT runs in 5th or 6th without the head coolong mod. Evenflo just came out with one that dosent require you to drop the transmition to install. It adds a new cooling hose to the back of the drivers side head where there isnt any flow from the factory so it causes hot spots. The tolerences on the Termi block are so tight that the piston expands enough to sieze the engine unless there is better cooling for cylinders 7 & 8. Just gota remove the blower and there is a fitting that gets installed. No cutting (besides the rad hose) or drilling :nice:

The differental is super easy to remove on these cars if you have a lift but you dont need to for replacing thoes bushings. You do need to remove thoes bushings to move the diff back enough to install the IRS brace so thats a good time to swap them. Four bolts is all it takes to mave the pumpkin back to install both parts. The two that also hold the derlin bushings and the two on the end of the diff cover where the IRS brace reinforces it. When you get under the car and see how the cover is braced you can see where it would crack at. Its just not thick enough.

eBay has the IRS brace in the same red as you car for $179 but I just bought the Steeda one cause a dude in Ennis had it for $125 :nice:

Hope it helps :nice:

Thanks Laser. I looked on Steeda's site and it looks like they have the best offerings of IRS parts. They have the carrier bushings, subframe bushings and the control arm bushings available. I am thinking of getting the carrier bushings and the subframe bushings, but I might skip out of the control arm bushings.

Do you have these bushings in your Termi? If so, did you need a press to remove them? And it looks like you do have to remove the carrier bolts to move it back to slip the IRS brace into position? I do have a hoist at work and all tools if needed.

And as far as the head cooling mod...I have also read that the 04's have better heads than the 03. Ford was supposed to correct the cooling problem on the 04's.

The head thing is a myth. People say if it has blue paint on it then its the better heads. I fell for it :( 03/04 heads are IDENTICAL but there may have been a different seal for the valve guides that stands up to a higher heat. U.M. had his heads replaced two or three times and it still came back. He did the head cooling mod and never had an issue. If its warm out though you could just not pull 5th or 6th and save the $120  I dont have that mod yet but will buy it in spring.

Things I learned that are a MUST for these cars in the countless hours of research I have done are : Head cooling, IRS brace, oil PCV filter and derlin bushings. That covers most of Fords weak spots in the car.

I dont have the sub frame or controll arm bushings eaither. Them, the cooling mod and a twin screw are the only mods left to do on my car and I would like to have things to look foreward to do to the car.... if that makes any sense

Hmm...UM went as far as having his heads replaced? That sucks. I don't think I'm doing that cooling mod. Pulling 5th and 6th gear WOT would give you speeds of 140-160MPH....that I don't need to do.

I am getting ahead of myself with all this bushing talk too. I won't get it on the hoist at work til the spring. First mod is the Nitto's and the shorter handle to go with the Hurst shifter. I will see how the car does with the Nitto's and warm weather and go from there. I need to get a good look at the IRS and see what is involved for installing this stuff.
