I want a bike!

Well I have my heart set on buying a street bike, but I'm on a pretty tight budget (like 3 grand would be pushing it). What would all you bike fanatics recommend for that amount of money? I'm not looking for MAJOR speed, as I havn't ridden in 6 or 7 years. And even then, I was into motorcross, so I have never ridden a bike on public roads. That's why I'm thinking 600cc's would be plenty for me. So, what options do I have? Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda???? Thanks for any advice!

Get a 636 They are plenty quick and are classified as a 600cc bike

I've been on practically every bike made since the mid 90's when i turned 16...... that being said...if it were me, I'd either buy a 1996-2000 zx7r or a suzuki TL-S (or if you look really hard, a TLR) You should be able to find plenty of those in that price range. The ninja is really the most reliable of the group and is probably one of the most stable street bikes ever made. I still have mine that I bought new in 98 and wouldn't give it up for the world.

If it's your first street bike look for a Honda CBR600F2. You should be able to find one of those easily for $3000. I've found them for $2500. They are good bikes. I used to ride an F3 and CBR900RR. I loved both of them back in the day.

I want one too. I found a 1996 Honda CBR 600 F3 for sale here locally for $3300 with 16k on it.

i agree the 636 is plenty quick i take down the gixxer 750s like its nothing at the track. I got a few liter bikes but they need a better rider on them lol.

but if u are on a tight budget look into something like maybe a ninja 650. its only a 2 cylinder though. or look into buying an older honda cbr or something those hondas last for ever.

oh and if u want a kawasaki 636 go to kawiforums.com

look in the classifieds there are plenty of 636s for sale that have 2k miles and are around 5grand with some mods and never been dropped.

The only 636 you'll find for under 3k will be a POS with some sort of problems....there are much better choices

rf900, 96-97 yzf1000 thunderace, 96-00 ninja 750, f2-f3 are good bikes..maybe even find an F4i if you look hard enough.....you may also find a nice condition yzf 750 for cheap $$$

you can get a ****load of bikes up to 2000-2002 for under 3k. think "craigslist". might not be super new condition but great deals are out there.

youre also picking a bad time to look. those deals come around springtime, march-may when weather is getting nice and riders are looking to unload their current bike for a newer one and just need cash asap.

Yea I've been looking around craigslist. It seems every thing is broken or high mileage though . It sounds like most people are recommending gixxer's or cbr's. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

he's talking about a real track, not 1/4 mile times

any newer 600 out there can run 10's in the 1/4, not that fast, esp if you drop a tooth on the front sprocket.

surprised no one said sv650 yet. they can be gotten in great shape in your price range and they are a great bike.

as for 600 i4's you'll be looking at anything 98-02 in your price range for the most part. and those years look towards zx-6r and gsxr 600. r6 and cbr's are a little underpowered, but still very comparable and by no means off the mark.

and as far as reliability they are really all about the same.

I havent made a 1/4 pass before. the 750 is only supposedly .01 seconds ahead of the 636 in the 1/4 but the 636 has a higher trap and also walks from any roll. thats going by sportriders.com numbers. the 750s have more torque but they dont have quite the top end pull.

I am more into knee dragging than drag racing though. Its more fun hearing your knees scrapping the ground.

If you want a really really good bike.. I have a 636 that i can sell you.. its a 2006 Zx6r 636.. has about 5k on it, with flush mounts, and has been broken in correctly, had all its oil changes and stuff.. but only problem is i want like $7500+ for mine..
But i would get a beat around bike for HELLA cheap, so you can do whatever on and you dont care.. then spend the money, (if you really want a nice bike) and get a new one.. but thats just me...

what are u getting rid of ur 636 for man?

anyways I agree i like new bikes better than used cause then you know that nobody has beaten on it. I picked mine up new for 7900 otd from honda east. Awesome place on there website they have msrps listed but email them and ask for an out the door price and its usually 1000 dollars off msrp. you dont pay any of that freight and prep crap so its nice.

i put my 200 deposit on it and they had all the paper work done so we just signed and got out of there. they get people in from all over texas, california you name it. they are located in toledo ohio.

I used to ride and had a Suzuki sv650, a DOHC V-TWIN torque monster. It'll wheelie with the best of em and drives like a muscle bike. If you got a stang you kno torque. oh yeah, they're only 5g brand new.
