ideal head for my 331

I would pick an AFR185 over a Vic Jr anyday of the week if your talking out of the box. I just haven't been impressed with the results on motor's I have built with good matched combo's.

The TFS will work great but they are a little small for a 331 right out of the box depending on your exact combo, but for $700 I would not pass them up. Your combo is going to peak by 6000-6100 rpm anyways with the cam and intake combo you are looking at.

I have a customer with a standard TFS head, alot of work done to them (but they are not as good as some of the profiles that are out now)on on his 345ci NA motor it goes 9.49 @ 142.4mph on MT D/R's ALL MOTOR

Just be prepared when buying used parts, I would have them tanked, check and you may need springs depending what model TFS head they are so you do not float them with the Stage III cam, add new Viton seals as well $21

Thanks rick i can always count on you! I appreciate all the help! My probe pistons should not be a problem with the TW heads correct?

Probe with TW heads work but I contacted Probe about notching the pistons for use with AFR heads and they told me that notching is required. I really like my TW heads on my 331. Down the road if I want more power I can always have them ported!

any #s with them? (dyno)

$700 is a decent price for used twisted wedges but don't forget to factor in the NEEDED valve spring swap, clean up mill and rockers/pushrods.

I say just do the victor jr's. I have yet to see any other head out of the box with nothing more than a casting flash clean up make 466rwhp at 6,200 rpm in a n/a pump gas 347.

I run unported twisted wedges on my stroker. It runs very good. With a 3" exhaust swap I would guess it would dyno around 400rwhp, but I could care less what it dyno's. If money was no object I would have sold my TW heads from my 302 and gone with victor jr's.

im in the same boat as you, im just curious what kind of power i would be looking at. . . if infact it does make 400hp all motor that is going to put it well into the blocks limit range with the spray:nonono:

im just wondering if it will be worth the price over what i have now! Im going to be pretty upset if i put them on and it only runs 10.90s because a pill change can make the car run that fast

I haven't gotten it dynoed yet. I will but I need to get some bills paid first.

The car is rather quick now. Once I get it tuned I will put it on the dyno. I often wondered what would happen if i changed to a different cam but I like the way it drives and idles now so I'm not touching it.

I build mainly with the Probes SRS series and they do not need the refliefs cut for a AFR 165,185 or 205 (haven't check them with a 225 yet)

What series piston are you using the FPS?

TFS Track Heat 205 cnc'd head.

Nice head :nice: finally saw a set in person the other day.

If your planning on spraying, the Vic Jr will have the edge with a larger port volume intake and exhaust. With N2O you are only as efficent as your head is, if you can't get the waste out the exhaust port you will not make any more power. AFR does offer the larger N2O exhaust port package.

If you want a 200cc+ head the 205cc listed above, the AFR205, Brodix Track !'s etc....all are an excellent head. I hear the RNS stuff is going to surprise people as well.

yeah, im aware that right now my heads are my bottle neck for the nitrous! I just dont know if i can justify dishing out over 1700 for heads though:shrug:

I tell you sir i like my vic jr's. The thing is with them there is room to grow. head work can get them to flow tons more then they do out of the box. They are also much cheaper then the other heads that are comparible to them. I know one thing with them is that since i installed them i had troubles hooking launching on the juice. I tryed at our local 1/8 mile. got a 2.4 60 foot. Previously with the holley systemax II heads i would get 1.8's launch on juice. (1.6 at a properly prepped track) now with the vic jr's i was turning the same time as the holley heads but i was hitting the juice half way through second. Need to get some suspension work done and see what it will do with nitrous launch's again.

I want to go the victor jr route but it is hard to find a used set!:(

well i guess what you could do is be happy with what you have now save the extra doh for a year or so and buy new. Or save and hit every car part swap meet you here of over next summer and do the mod next winter.

Based on the cam your running vic jr's would be best as they have a 75% IvE. Followed by the AFR 185's 76% IvE. The AFR 205's would be better with a different cam as they benefit more from a cam with more intake duration with a IvE of 81%. I think, I'm still trying to get all the equations straight in my head.
