Hey everyone just picked up a new 35th anniversary editoin with 120k miles for 4700 on Thursday! I am pretty excited, because I have only owned 3 F150s in my lifetime. I know it is going to need brakes soon, but besides that would be on your top list for mods, knowing it has 120k miles on it. All it has now is a BBK Cold Air. Thanks

When you do the brakes upgrade the front to the Cobra's if you have the change for it. In the long run you won't spend that much more for a better setup. I'm kicking myself for not doing that right now. Your 1st mod should be to get the car in top running order with plugs, filters, fluids.. all that good stuff. After that should be gears and a tune.

+1. I'm mad at myself for not doing it a year or so ago when I bought new pads and rotors. It wouldn't have been much more, and there's a 'cheap' way to do it:

Get remanufactured 03/04 Cobra calipers from O'Reilly's (because they are the only ones that come with the needed mounting brackets) for about $80 each. Then get some stainless steel brake lines for about $60. And finally, pick a set of rotors/pads. You can get 'decent' quality rotors/pads from the seller "Brakemotive" on Ebay for about $100, but the zinc coating will wear off after a year or so. I'd have to look around, but there's also another seller that sells VERY good quality rotors that come powder coated and supposedly won't rust for around $160. Then add a set of Hawk pads for $60 and you're done.

Voila. Front Cobra brake upgrade for $300-$400.

Also ditto on doing all the maintenance stuff.

If I could do it over again, I would own an LS1

But if I had to keep the mustang, I would do gears, full suspension, full exhaust, and then worry about the rest of the full bolt on's in that order.

Make sure you change all the fluids, change the plugs, fuel and air filter, etc. You never know when the last time it was done... As far as mods your going to get all kinds of different answers, it really all depends on the intensions of your car. A shifter is a must however.

Do all of the maintenance stuff first. Because you need to replace your brakes soon, I would upgrade to the Cobra front brakes. The difference will be huge, and the GT stock brakes are pretty crappy. Otherwise, mods are a personal preference really. The general opinion for first mods seems to be this:

(in no particular order)

1. Sub-frame connectors
2. Gears
3. Exhaust
4. Shifter
5. Tuner

For me, its:

Gears
Tuner
Wheels
Tires
Suspension

And thats actually pretty much the way I did it the first time.

Wow, everyone thanks for all the responses! I am def going to go with the cobra brake upgrade, a complete tune up, and some gears for starters. Thanks for all the great information. I will certainly be a regular on here. I am sure it is in here, but what kind of gears do you suggest for a daily driver?

I'm not trying to be rude, but please just do a search. It's easier for you to do a search on here, than for everyone to voice their opinion.

My thoughts exactly, but swap SFC to the top of both lists and add underdrive pulleys to the first. Make lowering springs a priority for both of those lists, unless you like your past F350's so much that you can't shy away from the 4x4 stance.

Congrats on the ride man....

Yeah do the maintenance first. You've got no idea how well that car was taken care of in that department.

Have fun with it man!

Im a little frustrated with my first mustang today. Cracked intake manifold.....A plastic intake manifold? I am going to ask whoever thought of that to add some coolant for me right after a good hour drive......

No biggy. Surprised your car didn't have the fix on it. It was a ford recall. They all crack, sooner or later. Get a new intake and slap it on with the aluminum crossover.

If I had to do it over again, I'd get a Cobra coupe to start out with, of course. 215hp feels a lot faster when you came from a 2.3L auto Ranger...

But as far as mods to your car... like the others have said... maintenance. Make sure you've got it running right. Then, lower that 4x4, put in gears and a shifter. Can't wait to get the gears in mine, and contemplating trying to exchange the 3.55's for something more aggressive since my car has been feeling so slow lately.
