1993 Mustang 2.3L ran for 10 mins then died. Tried to restart and it wouldn't fire. Turns over excellent just won't fire. Fuel pump is fine. I changed both the DIS ignition module and the front coil (got them at a wrecker used). Car still won't run. I am assuming the used parts I got were no good.

How can I tell if it's either the DIS or the coil pack?

Check for diagnostic codes first; every DIS fault I can think of will set a code.
Confirm fuel pressure at the fuel rail.

See if the tach is showing an rpm while cranking...the ignition module controls the tach.

The tach stays on 0 rpm while I crank the car over and over.

Sounds like the ignition control module on the lower intake manifold.

Damn, I just replaced it from one from the wrecker. Is it possible the one I got was bad or I somehow fried it after I installed it?

With thouse it ALWAYS better to go new, mabe a bit more but will save you in the long run. I went through that a bit ago started with the primary coil misfiring into the block. So I replaced the coil with a NEW one and all was well for a bit till the dis went tach went crazy, no fire to one coil pack, no fire to certian cylenders on both sides then fianly dead. No fire what soever. So 120 bux latter it ran better than it ever had. Probaly not what you wonted to hear, but hope it helps ya

$120, I wish. A new DIS here is $299 (CAD) + tax.

So even if my tach isn't acting up you still think its the DIS?

$176+ tax at crappy tire and make sure you use some dielectric grease on the back of the module when you put it on or you will blow it too. the classic symtoms are tach only shows half the rpm's and it should throw codes 223-224 if it is the module.

codes 223-224 ignition module wows FC 126

My car also has FC 223 224. The tech is also at half.
What is causing these ignition modules to fail?
Reason why I ask, I used to have a 86 SVO that went through 3 TFI ignition modules. Yes, I used dialetric grease every time I replaced it. After I sold the vehicle, I was told that a faulty coil may have been the cause of the 1.5 year life span of the ignition module. Can these DIS coils cause the ignition module to go bad? Is there a resistance that can be checked with this type of coil?

Car also has FC 126 MAP or Barametric sensor out of range.

Any special check for MAP or Baro sensor?

The TFI's are just failure prone, the coil has nothing to do with it.

Even though this thread is old, sounds like the original poster had crank sensor issues.
