What's up boys and girls?!?!?! I'm back in the Stang game!
For a long time now, a few years, my wife has been surpressing my love for Mustangs....
Well, she's out the door and the papers have been filed! So, I bought myself a little divorce present. I just picked up a 97GT 5spd. It's Royal Blue (LOVE THAT COLOR!) with the nice machined 17" wheels. Nothing special, but it was cheap and it was the right color...
I know, it's weak but not for long! I bought it Tuesday and yesterday I ordered some 4:10 gears, a speed cal, a Trick Flow girdle, Lakewood Traction Action LCAs, Steeda double adjustable UCAs, a off road H pipe, some MIL eliminators, Flowmaster cat-back, a Tri-Ax shifter, Hurst shift knob and few other small things. LET THE MODS BEGIN!!!!
Next on my list is a better diff, some 31 spline axles, a good drive shaft, a saftey loop, a good clutch, some 70/30 srtuts, 50/50 shocks, a CAI, 70mm TB, some 15" Draglites, MT ET Streets, some skinnies, a 190lph fuel pump a timing adjuster and a shot of NOS. If anyone ahs any of the above mentioned stuff for sale let me know!
I don't plan on spending any money on the motor (why bother). I have something better in mind....... A roller 351W out of a truck and a TKO 600! I'm thinking 427 stroker with FAST XFI. Then, it won't be weak any more!
For now, I plan on 5000+ rpm dumps at the strip and hitting it hard with some NOS. (notice attention to driveline parts above). If the motor / trans (or both) grenade oh well, time for that 351!!
I'm just going to be brutal to that little 281 for now and see how long it'll last.
I took it to the track last night (the day after I bought it) and I was thinking 14:60's and it ran a best of 14:72 with 60 fts in the 2.0-2.1 range. THAT SUCKS! I still had fun though! Keep in mind, this thing is BONE stock, right down to the air filter! The original owner didn't do anything to it.
Join me as I modify, flog and break parts on this thing, should be fun!
Pics to come for all to see...
Feels good to be back on here! Just like coming home after a long vaction!
~Matt.
PS- if any of you remember me and my last project, the Gnarly Notch and are wondering what happened to it.... Well, it's long gone. I sold it to make the dumb azz wife happy. THAT'S THE LAST TIME THAT'LL HAPPEN!
