traded my 03 v6 today for an 01 GT...

of course it being a used car it didnt come with an owners manual...

what octane is recommended by the manufacturer for this? 87 or 93?

also.. what would be the best mod to do first to this thing? it already came with a CAI?

I'm thinking a whole new exhaust system.. X pipe and shorty headers..

are roller rockers a common mod? educate me on the 4.6!!

The 4.6 GT is designed to run on 87 octane, if it pings then I'd run 89 but not unless you ping or else your wasting money and possibly losing power. Cat-back is a great mod to make you happier with the car, MustangExhaust is a great place to help decide which cat back you want. For fun to drive I'd pick the Steeda Tri-Ax short shifter, it will also help you make more positive shifts in a race. For best power and ease of install, the Steeda Timing adjuster is a good mod if you don't mind using premium fuel. I'm sure others can add to this, I'm headed home. 3-12 midnight shift is boring!!!

4.10s, throttle body, upper plenum, catback, midpipe, upper & lower control arms, weld in subframes, CAI, which doesnt do *****, but a drop in K&N will do fine, and remove your silencer. Any of these will make a good starting point

On the gas, a GT runs on 87, per the manual.

Spend more on premium if you want, but you won't get anything out of it, unless you run a Timing Advance.

The rest of the mods you will hear plenty about if you read the first couple of pages in the Mod tech forum.

May I suggest 4.10 rear end gears, for a nice SOTP feel? I would have them already, but don't have the money.

The conventional wisdom on stanget is make your first mod a change in rear end gears, swapping out the stock 3.23s for 4.10s. I followed this wisdom and was not disappointed. The low end torque is awesome. On the intake side, you can put in a K & N airfilter (2 rwhp), C & L TrueFlow inlet pipe (2 rwhp), Accufab 75 mm throttle body and plenum (8 rwhp). On the exhaust side, you can put in a x-pipe (8 rwhp) and LT headers (20 rwhp). The catback exhaust will improve the sound but add little to performance. Two additional modifications: underdrive pulleys (6 rwhp) and computer chip (8 rhwp).

Get 4.10 gears ( $139 gefracing.com) then get a off road H pipe by mac ($120) and some original 40 series flowmaster mufflers ($60 each) . Your car will sound like a 60's muscle car! H pipes are louder and sound mean as hell. X pipes flow better but not enough to make that much difference. X pipes sound raspy too. That will get you started. Good luck.
