Im very sorry for this thread - Im fearing the gear

ive heard split responses as far as when aod-e cars hit the limiters before the shift... ive heard 50/50 about hitting the limiter in first with 3.73's, and ive probably heard 95% of aod-e's with 4.10's complain of the problem. do it the right way instead of shifting the gears on your own... the aod-e's arent meant for this kind of thing in stock form without a different valvebody. i chewed my aod-e up in about 25k with only doing this every once in a while. multiple trannie shops chewed me out on that one since. having said that, both u and i can testify that an aode vert needs all the gearing help it can get with the stock 302, so go for the 4.10's, however i think first gear would be useless with the t-5.

You brought up two points of concern :)

1. I know about this one for sure :nice:

AODE has a much lower limiter and its below 6K

2. I don't know about this one :notnice:
but
I stayed at a Holida ...... sorry :(

I've seen Don 95Vert say (when he posts :hail2: I pay attention ;)) you need to have them optimized.

See his threads for shift point details :D

Grady,....I just posed this question to Don last night....or just a few hours ago....looks like I will be making the leap to 4:10's as well......it's either that or swap the tranny............

Define those words ................ swap the tranny

Your not thinkin about commin over to the dark side (stick trans)

 are ya

I have 3.73's and stock motor and i honestly wouldnt want to go any higher, first gear is alreay too short
now my friend has an automatic with 4.10s and they are pretty much perfect
we both have verts btw

For my 5 speed application, I totally agree with this. I prefer to have a first gear. yea yea....:dead:

I plead guilty :rlaugh:

but

Not only to me :nono:
but
several of my gear head buds who have driven my 95 say ...........

with my 373's ... my first gear is NOT too ...........

short
close
ineffective
or ... what ever word you choose to describe it.

I still say ... its all about your power curve :D

Does it start to flatten at less than 5k :(
or
Does it make it all the way to 6K :)

Steeper gears do not act the same in a Stocker as they do in a modded Stang that has an extended range of power.

Thats my story! ... and ... I'm a stickin to it :nice:

Pulls past 6000RPM and still shifting too early for my preference. Spins big time. So easy off the throttle you say? Then losing ground we are as the full potential is not being used...
