Indexing Bellhousings

When indexing a bellhousing for alignment, does anyone know what the out of center tolerances are for a Top loader for a big block??? I have a top loader that is popping out of second gear on the downshift and with a full rebuild and a good second gear and slider that was in excellent shape, I suspect a tranny / bellhousing problem.

How did the syncros look on secong gear itself ? Is it a stock bell or Lakewood ? You might also contact David Kee Toploaders in San Antonio for more advice. His website is www.davidkeetoploaders.com

A new shifter was installed and adjusted every which way but loose. All syncros are new. Pulled the tranny and it appears that the top spring over the 1-2 shift rail had broke and would not apply enough pressure to keep the rail in place. Will replace that and then see what happens.

I wasn't referring to the brass syncros ( they're actually called blocker rings) but rather the syncro teeth on second gear itself. Only changing the whole gear will fix worn syncros there.

I see. I know them as Dog teeth or clutching teeth. Yes they were in good shape also.
