Injectors and MAF for 94 cobra 331

There's many threads about this in the tuning section. Basically its PMS vs. TwEECer. You'll also need a laptop and a wideband O2 sensor to self tune. And get ready to do some research no matter which method you chose.

I know you respect your tuner, but 24 pound injectors aren't enough for a 331 HCI. 24 pound injectors aren't enough for most 302 HCIs, unless you up the fuel pressure.

Hes one of them fellers I almost always can use the little guy :stupid:
with when he puts up stuff in our forum :nice:

Just a small bit to add to his wise words
and
I won't even get into the PMS or Tweecer thing :D

No matter which device you would choose to Self Tune with ............

Any of them should allow you to optimize your drivability and max power just as efficiently, or at the very least, pretty darn close to the level of a place that uses a dyno to make a chip.

The knowledge of the Tuner is what its all about :nice:

Whether he be Self or Pro Tunin ;)

After looking at my BSFC on my 24's in a datalog last summer is when I started really thinking about getting some 30's. Not that I was "unsafe" but I could see that they were getting close to that point with just my little 306 95% factory hot rodded part combo. I would much rather err on the safty side and over inject and tune the inj. down than risk the chance of shorter life span at elevated pres., much more load on the inj., and added chance a hole might develope in a piston if they were to get "overworked" at the wrong time.

However, remember I cannot mess with the stock fuel pres. (and other tweecer/tuner peeps shouldnt either). So working in elevated pres. is not an option I have...and I am glad I dont have that option either.

A buddy of mine has a 94 gen 1 lightning with a 357 (just a 30 over 351), now stock they had 19's:eek: . He added some AFR185's to it and wanted a tweecer as he noticed it was running out of steam up top from fuel issues and wanted to run 24's. I was talking to him and said AT least 30's if not larger. He got the 30's and after running with the 30's he agrees that 24's would have been WAY too small. He is using my stock gt cam with the AFR's along with the stock gt40 intake so his combo though slightly bigger with a tad (but somewhat close-ish) more head is prob. restricted a good bit as well. He said the truck was just night and day diff. from just the inj. swap and pulled 10x's harder up top.

Have you considered using an A9L computer. A buddy of mine is running a 331 and swapped out the pcm, and has not needed a custom tune. His cars runs very strong, even tho he doesn't take it to the track. It'll save you a buttload of money on tuning. You may still to tune it, but I don't think you'll have such a hard time.

If he did the step backward (just me) eec swap and has no tuning on a 331 he is SURELY leaving power on the table. To get the eec (any eec) to really run with a diff. inj. without a tune he is prob. using a C&L or PMAS/Pro-M meter to "fool" the eec. Thats all fine and dandy but to the same extent can be done with any 94-95 eec stroker to work. Tons do it and have done it, now there is an issue with drivability that can (but not allways) pop up. However, the 94-95 will run well for the most part (unless the cam is funky) as an example I still got my 24#inj. and tfs1 cam to run with little issues (drivability) with no tune and it ran really well as well.

Like you posted "It'll save you a buttload of money on tuning. You may still to tune it, but I don't think you'll have such a hard time" hard or easy tune is going to still cost the same money to tune at least another 300$+. Now add the cost of the A9 swap and your spending enough to go standalone from the start and working with a older less feature laden computer and it still will not control the electric fans.

Some people have results from going A9 and I am not knocking the better "stock" eec setup...but once modded or tuned that really goes out the window dont you think??? I bet there are plenty of people who also like running a carb on an 87-95 5.0 and say its better...is it??? Its all in who and how they are tuning it in the end.

I have not thought about doing a eec swap. I am most likely going to get a chip burned when the time comes. This morning i had a heck of a time starting it up after it sat for a week. It would start no problem but keeping it running...It would stall a few times before it would get a tad bit warm. Once warm no problems at all.

Also sometimes when I start it up after sitting it runs rough. Once warmed up runs much smoother. is this most likely a tuning issue as well.
