Install 3.90's B 4 2000mi Drive... OK right?

So my dad may do a kind thing for me and drive my stang out to cali from Chicago. It's just finishing up getting some work done. My shop has been on my butt for some time to ditch the stock gears back from the day when it was an auto, 3.27's I guess?!? It does take some time to get into the R's where the car is really happy so I guess I'm going to do it. Hopefully it makes a nice difference. I have to make up my mind tomorrow on which ones. I'm thinking the 3.90's mated with the 6 speed will still cruise great at 85 or so for him on the way out, while providing alot more kick. Just wanted to run it by you guys for some re assurance. If it makes a diff car makes about 450hp 400tq at the rear.

The first thing I did after installing my 3.90's was pick the car up from the shop and take an 800 mile road trip without stoping at home. It's a great way to get some miles and the gears and let them set. A little mix of street driving will also help. How's the FRC?

BTW, I'm not sure the gearing in your tranny, but my mn12 6 speed does fine at 80MPH. I get around 27mpg with 3.90's.

well, I've thought about that in the past when taking my cars around the country. Problems are that if I don't go full boat on a white glove service, costing thousands of dollars I'm worried about the car. I don't really want 2k on my bought new by me in highschool 60k stang but it's the lesser of 2 evils I think. With the "normal" trans companies this is the typical process in case you don't know.

1. They come pick up the car or you drop it off at a holding lot.
2. Car gets picked up by transport truck.
3. Car gets dropped at another holding lot.

My car is lowered and will be a PAIN to get on and off the truck without damage. Who knows if they will care enough not to scrape the front end. The cars can a very often do get delayed in holding lots all the time, turning a 1 week ship time into a month. With all the holding and different stages scratches are not uncommon. No assurance your car won't be on a bottom bunk with one above leaking oil or something else all over the car.

Just too much to go wrong. I think I'd rather add the 2k

I shipped cars three times in the span of a year last year and it was fine. Had my 95 shipped from VA to TX and back to TN. It took four days each time. Also I had my 02 shipped and they used a 5th wheel trailer because it was lowered. Came in without a scratch. DASautoshippers is who I used. I think with the added options I used it was around $700. Only things I didn't get was covered and delivery date. They give you a week window of when it will be picked up, and it will be there a few days after. Mine was picked up on a saturday and arrived on tuesday.

DAS is the only one I would trust. I was like you and was leery of a lot of them. Years ago my aunt shipped a jeep from VA to CA and it was $800. I am sure prices have went up some, but she couldn't have drove it and flew back for that price.
