i installed the new heads, cobra intake,1.7rr's ,Maf,65 mm TB and shorty headers yesterday. The performance gain is great but the car is quite a bit louder than before especially the drone. My wife is not impressed.I have the stock h and the Magnaflow catback was on before.Would the headers make that much difference or is it something else?

Hahaha your wife is not impressed.. i love it.

yeah the headers are what is causing the noise but usually people like em louder, make sure you dont have any exhaust leaks. but the magnaflows always sound drony i feel at speeds

With everything you added, you have a lot more air flow through the engine - yes it's going to be a bit louder. Tell the wife to stay home!

It will be louder but shouldnt be hugely noticeable. You just have some bad exhaust leaks, does it sound like a tractor?

I am old enough to realize that when my wife is happy I'm happy (or just whipped).Yeah, I understood there would be more air flow (which was my objective) when I am accelerating which should make it louder. But at idle or a constant 2250 RPM on the highway it shouldn't change that much?

It was like a tractor at initial start up before we fixed the exhaust leaks and I thought it was OK until we drove it around for a while..I took it back to the mechanic to double check the headers to heads connections for leaks and the connections to the Stock H pipe from the headers. The sound level didn't change.

Welcome to the "I don't like to ride in your car, it's too loud club". My wife is chairperson and CEO. Maybe your wife would like to be the second in command...

I have the same type of problems, but have a MAC cat H pipe and 3 chamber flows. The drone at 1700-2300 RPM is very annoying. I have learned that all flowmasters all suffer from the drone problem.

loud pipes saves lives!!!!!!! My wife loves the fact that I set off every alarm on the block. That and she always loves to know when I am on my way home from a distance. Makes me happy to.

Does ANY girl like it lol? MY girlfriend isn't a big fan of the loudness. I have long tubes, o/r x and 3 chamber flows. I also have the 1.7 RRs and a BiG lift cam. When I get the heads I should be pushing some serious air out.

Does anyone know any QUIET mufflers? I was thinkin about going Spintech next time. I like the sound quite a bit.

Spintech's are one of the loudest mufflers you can buy, haha. Your 3 chamber Flowmasters are one of the more quiet mufflers. Dynomax Super Turbo's are also know to be one of the quietest.

Actually when I brought home the car after installing the new motor she wanted to "hear" where all my money and time had gone (thought the reciepts were burnt beyond reconition ). Her response when I lit it up for the first time..."Well I'll always know when your on your way home, and why does it sound like it's gurgling"..by that she meant the cam loping...her last statement before going back inside with barely a smile.."Your shaking the house and you've scared the dog, can you shut it off and come in now?"..what a great woman...she really is though.

Best excuse for having a loud car:

It's a safety feature. People can hear me coming.

My Magnaflows didn't make my car ANY louder then it did with the stock mufflers, just deeper and no drone.

LOL!....first time i went to pick up my current gf for our first date i scared the SHIit out of her mom. I walked in the house and her moms asked why it sound like a nascar race is outside my house. The gf is not a big fan of the loudness, but she puts up with it cuz she knows it makes me happy...what a woman.

My girlfriend hates the loudness of dumped 2 chambers and no cats and the car is stock otherwise. She absolutely hates to ride in it.

I just tell her that at least people can hear me even if they can't see me. I did have a woman pull out in front of me the other day when I was in a mall parking lot coming around the corner at a good clip (deserted part of the lot). I know she heard me, but I had to slam on my brakes to keep from hitting her. Some people are just so stupid. How can you miss a loud, red car?
