Installed my gears yesterday.

Way to go, I love my 3.73;s. BE SURE to run as high a synthetic oil as you can AND the Ford rear end addative or you will loose your bearings quick. I talked with Ford and the oil they recomend is like 17.99 a quart, so I just had the oil changer place put the highest rating they had and the red addative from ford ($11.99) in after about 500 miles break in.

So if you hear the howl, chage that fluid and get the addative.

Enjoy, oh and be sure to do the lower control arms, those are a must.......

What type of howl or noises are you guys talking about? These are new so I want to be sure to listen for the right thing and just be paranoid. To tell you the truth I never paid much attention before the gear swap, and usually always had my radio up.

On my IROC the backlash was not set properly and it sounded like the radio was always on but only in the back and it sounded like static. Thats why I originaly ask about the backlash. I believe there is also another adjustment too. This might vary on types of posi rears. Oh well good luck and make sure to listen for a little while.

The only way I can explain the sound is to say it is like when you were a kid and if you tied something to the end of a rope and swung it around your head. It will give off a deep woo woo woo sound. We didn't get mine set right the first time and I notice it a soon as I started it up on the blocks. I put it in second and gave it a little gas and you could hear it plain as day. I wouldn't be too worried if you haven't heard anything out of the ordinary by now. Your friend is a mechanic and he probably knew what he was doing, don't sweat it. Like the boys above said make sure that there was differential additive put in with the gear oil into your diff, that does matter. Now step into the heavy pedal and have fun with them new gears!! :nice:

Yee Haw Chesters Dead!!!

I believe it will void the warranty.

gears dont void warrantys

I think that has to be a dealer dependent thing. I called my Ford dealer and asked them about installing gears. The first thing he asked me was "How many miles does your car have on it?" I said "Around 12,000." He said, "Well, that's going to void the warranty, so you might want to consider that." I said "Thanks" and hung up.

So, to MY dealer, it will void the warranty. :nonono: I might check around with some other dealers in the area and see what they have to say.

A mechanic at ford told me as long as the gears are installed correctly there shouldnt be much whine. I'm sure your friend knows what hes doing if hes a mechanic. Dont waste your money on the densecharger I couldnt notice any differance, I actually read a thread on here where a guy lost 1-2 rwhp and ft/lbs. Just drop in a K&N and pull out the air silencer. How much did the install cost you in supplies?
