Please help.

I installed the Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back this weekend and the passenger side didn't fit right. I had to angle the pipes down to keep it from hitting the weight/balancer under the driveshaft. I was only able to squeeze a dime's width of clearance between the pipe and the weight even with the pipe twisted. I can post a picture if you'd like.

How can I fix this? Do I need a muffler shop to heat it with a torch and bend it?

Thanks

My pictures are a little big for this forum, but here is a link to a thread with pics. (I don't have time to re-size them right now)

BTW... I tried to angle the muffler the other way, and the pipe was *wedged* against the weight. I'm disappointed with this thing. I think it will cost me an hour's labor at my favorite muffler shop.

I know it's bad. I have an appointment at the muffler shop for Wed. morning, but I will save some money if someone can tell me how to fix it on my own.

I had a similar problem with some Borla stingers on a 01 I installed. I had to bend the hanger some to gain more clearance. I moved it as far forward & rotated it to gain the required clearance.

You can have the muffler shop heat the pipe and bend it to clear. That would be my suggestion. I'm sure the quality inspection on these cat backs are virtually non existent, so a bad one gets out there every now and then... and it sucks when you're the guy.'

I had a Flowmaster cat back on my 95 Cobra, and it rubbed the axle so bad it about rubbed a hole in the pipes on both sides... and constantly banged the floorboard. Very annoying.

Well you're not the only one, there's been plenty of people talking about the pipes rubbing the dog bone. So for this to work I think it was the left side tailpipe that hung lower to accomodate for Flowmasters error, or they completely removed the dampner.

UPDATE

Problem solved. The muffler shop cut the pipe and twisted it slightly. Now I have all kinds of room under there and the pipes look great. The specialist said Flowmaster welded the muffler to the tail-pipe at the wrong angle, and he was correct. I'll try to post a picture on the other site later tonight.

Damage was minimal --- 30 minutes and $37

BTW.... I can recommend a *great* exhaust shop in the Raleigh, NC area.

Thanks guys!

Don't know if its limited just to flowmaster, my catback's pipes hang a little lower on the left side too. It looks like the length of the left hanger is just a little off.

My left tailpipe was low before and after they fixed the clearance problem on the right-side. While it was in the shop, I had them bend the left tailpipe to match the right-side. Now, I have no clearance problems and the tips are centered in the cut-outs on both sides. I'm happy.
