Installing H-pipe

Hey guys, I'm about to go put in a new h-pipe in the 91. Any tips I should know before I start on it? It's snowing like crazy outside, so I figured I might not be working tomorrow.... why not install my new goodie tonight?

A little wd40 for those nuts and bolts at the header collectors and at the h pipe to cat back connectors. Without some lubricant they will be a bitch to turn all the way out.

You guys put the car up on jack stands?

I got some ramps from a buddie, but I have no clue how to get my car up on them... they just scoot in my garage.

Yeah, it makes me so happy, I wasn't excited to put on the h-pipe or anything... so now I gotta come up with some damn way to get the ramps to stay on place... and tricks with that?

Have someone put there foot behind the ramps and keep they from sliding. I would use jack stands though.

pretty easy but i had a lift so it was sooooo much easier. You might consider new o2's while your there.....

Try convincing the wife that parking next to a lift is normal when non of her friends have one in their garage. The best place for a lift is in your fathers pole barn so you can use all his tools.

Tips:

Jack the car up and place the ramps under the front tires. Don't drive up the ramps because they can slide around and do some damage to your paint / body (expensive)

Use a lot of WD-40 or PB blaster on all of the nuts. Let it soak in for a 1/2 hour prior to starting. Then respay as required

Chances are your mid pipes are rusted on or stuck. You might end up removing more than just the original H-pipe durring the install.

Wear gloves. Bloody knucles are not cool anymore

Not the best of ideas, should the car go off the side of the ramp or the driver run the car over the top--resulting in injury for the assistant.

A great way to keep ramps from sliding is to put scrap carpet pieces underneath the whole ramp (both sides). It sounds ghetto, but it's how I do it when working alone.

use a 2x4 or golf club or something and butt it up against the wall and then put the ramps against those to keep them from sliding.

A couple of lead in"s to the ramps made from some 2 x 6's have worked well for me for years - allows the botttom of the front fascia to clear the bottom of the ramp assuming that your car is not excessively lowered.

My car is stock height... I will try the 2x6 idea though, it may keep the ramp held down.

The garage will probably be separate from the house. The house part is takin care of.
