Too early? Yes, Sigh. I have a few questions as this is my first time storing a car through winter.

The Mach is going byby till spring, so now what? As im still paying her off, do I need to keep this heavy insurance pricetag on the car or is there usually a cheaper rate for the time it sits in the garage?

I also am looking for a high quality car cover to keep her warm while she hibernates. The one on American Muscle seems nice, any feedback on what should I be looking for?

Winter! There, i said it. Usually it won't snow till December but I have next week off and I want to fix up the 98' and spend one last winter driving her till I sell her next spring.

Nice to have an other Mustang to ease the sharp sting storing the Mach for the first time.

not to hijack the thread, but this made me remember i have a car cover never used cuz I got two for my birthday. I just reopened the classified ad i had so you can take a look. PM me if you want to work something out. http://classifieds.stangnet.com/showproduct.php?product=42659

But as for insurance most major insurance companies carry classic car coverage or minimal use coverage. But this would require you to change your coverage type each time you go into and out of winter.

You can drop your insurance down to just Comprehensive Insurance even if you have a loan on it. That only covers fire, theft, vandalism, flood ect. . When I lived in the midwest I almost always stored my '93 GT in the last week of October or the first week of November when the weather was still nice enough to get my car cleaned up for winter storage. If I did'nt call my insurance place to reinstate my full coverage come springtime, they would automatically reinstate it themselves on April 1st.

Just take the collision off your vehicle for the winter and that will drop your rates. Some companies require just a phone call, and others make you turn in your plates.

I have state farm and when I store my cars I switch to Theft and Fire only. Which is like $7.00 a month. Of course that means no driving, but they allow me to switch it with just a phone call.

Pretty much what everyone else said. In NY you are required to have liability coverage at all times so if you ever wish to remove it you have to surrender your plates. When you do they give you a little green form that I had to fax to my insurance company before they would drop the liability coverage. As far as car covers go just try and get one that is custom made for your car. They fit better and are generally of higher quality. Also make sure you tie it down well. (i didnt tie it down well enough once and it wound up blowing a few streets over in strong winds!)

thanks for the suggestions. I went to the insurance and got it settled. They didn't give any greif, just have liability on it and am set on the car cover. Dropped the rate way down, so I am saving a bit with the switch to the 98'.

are you going to be driving it?? Then do you even need liability? What about just left and fire you should be under $10 a month

That's not a company policy...state law dictates that. Indiana you can just have comprehensive without turning in the tags. Here in SC you cant. I had State Farm both places.
