here's the deal. my dad was looking at an 04 vette. kept tellig him to look at a mach or cobra. he took the vette out for a test drive and responded with too refined. i want a muscle car! he loves my 04 gt. so long story short he's picking up his 04 mach sat.. here's the question: he is 57 with a clean driving record. they told him the vette would be around 850 a year. sticker was 50thou.. the mach is ganna cost him 1200 yr or 850 with a three month layup(winter) which he don't mind. the thing is this is his third car. does this seem high? i pay 1300yr for my gt and it is my primary car. and i'm 28. he uses erie insurance. anyone have any thoughts? is the norm or is the mach a high theft car? it would sure cost more to fix a fiberglass car if wrecked.

If I were your Dad, I'd take my insurance business (ie. $$$) else where. And I mean all of it, cause he probably insures everything with one agent.

that's what i thought also. he does have everything through them. i use geico for my bikes. they are great. i only pay around 600 for my cbr 954. i know statefarm is the way to go for bikes but wasn't sure about cars. the funny thing was they told him they rate cars by letters. the vette was i think and and they mach was a w. higher the letter more money. on a differnt note it was great watching him test drive the mach. salseman didn't come. i had him take it up to 6200 and nail second and so forth. i haven't seen him smile like that for awhile. it helps that for the first time he has a faster car than me :( oh well just gotta get the 87 runnin with the 351 and alittle spray :D

If he want's a real muscle car, the MACH is it (the Cobra too).

I'll go out on a limb here and say the insurance company probably (statisticly) see's more crashed Mustangs (ie =.. higher risk) than they see crashed Vette's. Why? Because more old men buy Vette's (too damn expensive) and more young guys buy Mustangs. Vette's mostly get pampered. Mustang's are run and often run hard. Plus the shear number's. How many Vette's were made last year? How many Mustang's?

when i switched to my own policy i asked if my rates were going to go up and they told me no (which shocked me) they told me that even though im going on my own policy without my parents that they still saw me as a 20 year customer of theres with an excellent driving record
