I have an all stock 84 gt 5.0. I just put a new Comp Cam 456 lift 268 Diration cam in it. I was looking at buying a used EDELBROCK PERFORMER intake with a EDELBROCK 1406 4 BARREL CARB on it. It is a 600CFM carb with a man. secondary and elec. chock. Would this be a good or bad add on to my car?

thanx

On a stick car the mech secondary should be ok, with an auto a vac secondary matches engine loading better.

I have an Edelbrock Performer RPM and a 600 cfm Holley vac secondary, 80457 setup on my carbed 82, that performs very well for the mild level of the rest of the motor. Rhodes 270 deg, .464 lift cam, C4. As noted below, it has gotten into the 12s on the motor.

I am just wondering if this will be any improvment b eing the stock carb is a 600 cfm. I do have a 5 speed. the only changes to the car is the cam. i still have the stock exhaust other than a flowmaster.

Yes, and the improvement will come from the intake manifold. The intake Ford used in 1984 was one step up from garbage. The step below it was a 2 barrel carb intake. The carb will help too the factory carb may be a Holley 4 barrel, but it is a smog carb and it's not exactly a hi-po unit by most people standards. The Carter/Edelbrock AFB style carb is a definite improvement as well.

Thanx for the info. I think I will go with it. I do have to watch emissions for about 4 more years and then I can tag it historic and I will be out of the testing

MD must be just like NY. In NY after 25 years you only need safety inspection. No emissions tests/inspections needed.
