IRS Swap-Is it worth it?

I was just curious, maybe I could get some answers here but I was wondering if it would be worth all the money, time and effort to trade the solid rear end for the IRS from the '03 Cobra. I also heard that the IRS couldn't handle a good amount of hp (420+). I'm planning to mod my stang out to that much power. Is this rumor true?

I love my IRS... just driving the car around is a lot more pleasurable now...

however it is true... with 420+ hp you will hop around like a frog with it... for my application (350ish rwhp planned, and almost NO drag strip) i will be fine

Well for me I hated the IRS and love the solid axle. Then again I'd rather drag race than road race.

There's you answer. The IRS will make for a smoother ride over uneven surfaces ... I love mine. :nice: Less of a performance mod than comfort mod for GT owners.

I was considering this a couple days ago, at this point it wasn't worth it to me. Mainly because of the loss of most of my warranty. From what I learned the best thing to do is find an '03-'04 cobra that wants a live axle and do the swap with the cars right next to each other. That is also a good time to put some lowering springs in and poly bushings, basically any suspension work you may want done would be easier done during the swap.

Ya my GT has ghost stripes. Black exterior, black interior, black stripes (obviously). It's a 2000 GT 35th Anniversary Spring edition. It's looks sweet as hell. I will try to get pics....workin on a digi cam. Once I get them on my comp I'll pm you them.

There is no way you can possibly enhance the IRS to make it handle more HP can you? B/C a lotta of guys that own RX-7's have IRS, and they put on 500+ HP. How do they handle all the power?
you can put aftermarket halfshafts

IMHO...it's not the horsepower that's the problem, it's the torque...
