Fox Is possible to get a driver quality fox anymore?

I'd take 73,000 miles with a grain of salt.

I tried to do a carfax on the VIN but couldn't do it without paying. Someone might have an account. It came up as 18 records. Of course, those could be change of owners and inspections, in which mileage might be recorded. But it would let you know it's it's a 73000 mile car or a 173000 miles car
I can do a few summary reports here and there, so I decided to do this one out of curiosity. Last reported odometer reading 08-14-1987 with 11 miles. The car only has 29 historical reports, too.

Its a matter of the right place at the right time. In Oct I picked up an 87 GT Convert. I paid dearly for it but it was close enough to what I wanted. The car is a white with grey cloth auto with 66K original miles. It has orig paint in good condition, no parking lot dings and an original drivetrain that has not been moused with. I did have to replace the TPS as the car had a faulty replacement on it. The undercarriage is as clean as the top! which is amazing for a car that spent most of its life (parked inside) in Kansas. They are out there hidden among the Mattco repaint, transplanted engine, shredded interior 240K mile cars.

I always take fox mileages as suggestions, I really care more about its condition than its mileage. I mean I don't want a clapped-out 302 or T5 but those are easier fixes than bodywork or rust repair.

1991 LX hatch 5spd, I really like this one but it is just outside of my price range and a little too far for me.

Also after looking verts are starting to grow on me
I've learned that convertibles no one wants them and are a lot cheaper. I differ on that because I bought want and its a fun car to learn one. i have not tackled working on the convertible top. but when I do I heard its a pain in the butt or will just have Pro work on it.

Does anyone know how much the pros are charging to install a new top?

Tops are easy...Factory marks inside the frame line up with marks on your new top. Get the DVD from LMR, and you will be an expert. I got one on Black Friday two years ago for $225. I was quoted two grand, and took the do it yourself plunge. Thats what your cars are for. Why pay, and add to the possible negative value of your car.

is this a Fox only price for Convertibles?? Any other time I have gotten quotes for a Convertible it is an ADD of 20% over a hardtop?? " The top goes down, the price goes up" is the common adage in the collector car market...

It was true for classics (too goes down, price goes up) but doesn’t seem to have hit the fox market yet, at least among the racer crowd. I think the same is holding true for the SN95s as well.

Right now, 5-spd coupes remain at the top, and AOD convertibles are at the bottom.

I’ve always wanted a convertible.

I don’t know if Convertibles will ever be quite as popular in the Coupes or Hatches in the Fox market. The car doesn’t really have the classic shape of the 65-70 cars. It was a big motor in a small car, and that’s where it really became known and where the nostalgia is for them.

Or 273k even! Over 30 years old.

Drive up to NC and you can buy my 86 GT for 8, lol.
I still see good cars at decent prices around here from time to time, but there's a lot of overpriced junk. Just have to keep your eyes open and have cash ready. Seems like everything is up right now though and I've seen several articles about foxes being collector cars.

I work at a financial institution, and last fall a guy wired 26k to Texas for a built Reef Blue 93 5speed. He brought it by for me to see it when he picked it up.
Try explaining to a non car guy in wire services why someone is wiring 26k for a 93 Mustang. They were convinced it was a scam and didn't want to do it. Took a lot of back and forth with me and the buyer to convince them to process the wire. We appreciated the concern, but he had done his homework and it was legit.

There are a few decent driver cars up here in VA. I bought the Lady her 86 for way under 2k. No major rust. It was a true all original and under 100k fox. It's not original anymore since we replaced the shocks / struts, brakes, and tune up stuff.

I see 5.0 running and driving foxes for under 5k a the time. They need some love but are pretty decent. People are crazy. A clapped out, rusted up, mustang is still a turd to me.

So I regretfully had to sell my fox prior to getting divorced, now I’m in the hunt for another one and I kinda feel like the prices are a little nutty.

Is it possible to get a DD quality fox (hatch/coupe) V8/5spd for 10-12k?

There’s a red 85 hatch manual for sale but they want 26k… if this is simply the market then I guess I gotta keep stacking.

I’m not talking about perfect paint and low miles but just something I wouldn’t my driving and wrenching on.
The prices are higher, but if you keep looking you’ll find one. I just grabbed an almost all original ‘85 GT 5spd with 88k for about half that.

I got my '93 GT from placing a wanted ad in my local Craigslist. Completely stock, one owner, one repaint, it could easily be a daily driver. $8500 and everything works! Be patient and look around, you'll find one. Always have cash available, because good deals don't stay around long.
