Is she too old too boost?

My cars got bout 96000 miles on it. I'd like to stick a 10psi ProCharger with a 3 core intercooler on her (which was my plan when I bought it 4 years ago), but i'm afraid I may have let her go too long. If someone has boosted a high mileage 2V or has an opinion, let me know. Appreciate it.

As long as the motor still holds good compression and does not burn through oil etc you wil be fine with a good tune. Remember with boosted applications fuel is your friend, the more fuel you have the safer you will be!

My motor has 210k on it. Its spent the last 15k on boost with no intercooler and its a twin screw.
Yes its a 4v but my 4v has the same internals your 2v has. Same 6 bolt crank, same powdered rods etc etc

Thanks for quick replies. The motor runs strong and doesn't burn any oil. The high mileage comes from daily driving of 100 highway miles over 3 years. I dont work there anymore and have a daily driver now anyway. I have a svt focus pump to install as an upgrade. What size injectors and what brand do you think I should use for 9-10psi? I was thinkin 40# but dont know who is making the best injectors these days.

I think I have the 8 bolt windsor crank in mine. Probably the same steel as yours though, Laser.

Got a '99 with almost 1k miles on a Vortech. She burns a tiny bit/(or loses it, some seeps out of the front cover), but I just check it frequently. Got a spot on tune, and just make sure there is always plenty of gas in the tank. If she gets spot on gas mileage 16-19 city and good hwy mpgs, she will be good to go, weak compression will kill gas mileage, if she is well maintained you will be fine!

Go with the svt focus pump you got, should be good for around 450rwhp. Go with 42# injectors, those'll do you til 500ish! A intercooled procharger setup will net you between 380-440rwhp IMO, depending on the boost you run and tune you get! Maybe invest in a boost a pump if pushing closer to 450rwhp.

How low on gas is too low? I generally fill up at about 1/8 tank. Strict diet of 93 octane.

Is there a problem with the svt pumps in stock gt buckets? I heard a rumor that the bucket could be modified with holes to improved fuel pickup. Never heard anyone say they have done that though.

I planned on getting a safe tune. I drive the car in midwest temperatures. In St. Louis, you can start your day at 30 degrees F, see 75 degrees in the afternoon, and end the day back at 30. I dont drive in precipitating weather or when theres salt down. I figure it'll be tuned a little on the rich side.

Usually to an 1/8th tank is pushing it. The SVT Focus pump is an OEM pump so running in to E is alright, you just don't want to go lean under boost and say goodbye to your motor.

I'm making 380/378 and I didn't drill the bucket. I've heard it is more necessary with the Ford GT pumps, however.

Just let the car warm up in the morning, or go really gingerly on the throttle, you don't want the thing running too rich or lean!

I first sprayed my car at a little over 140k. 100 shot on a stock fuel system and hardly what you'd call a tune.

Yes, SVT pump and 42lb injectors are perfect for that power level. Get a 03/04 Cobra 90mm MAF meter and Lightning injectors and you will be jut fine. You could also run used Cobra injectors as I was running 488rwhp with only 85% DC on them.

And it appears I know jack about 2V motors. Never knew the early PI motors had 8 bolt cranks. Is that for autos too or only sticks?

99/2000 GT's had Windsor motors, like mine, had 8 bolt cranks, but not forged ones..

If you want it, do it. If the car's been maintained and hasn't had the piss driven out of it for those 96000 miles, you'll be fine. I put my blower on at 95k, and has had the crap driven out of it the last 15k, generally speaking. Still running strong and getting great fuel mileage (when I keep my foot out of it).

SVT Focus pump, 39 lb Cobra injectors/42 lb Lightning injectors, and a 90 MM Lighting MAF will support as much hp as your stock motor will hold.

yup...my 2000 GT had an 8-bolt crank...I had to get a new 6-bolt flywheel when I put in the 2004 Romeo engine

Tank, that mileage and boost number builds confidence. I would think 14 psi would send your rods into orbit. Especially with that many miles.

How much boost and what intercooler you running, Sneaky?

I have 87k and have been blown since 51k. It runs like a champ and doesn't burn a lick of oil. The procharger is still in top shape too.
