Is the Stock air intake silencer still on 07's anymore?

Since it might be until christmas before I get a CAI/tuner kit I was looking to take out the silencer that is I though below the filter in the box. I took out the filter and all that was there is a square hole. There is nothing to take out. Is this where the silencer is supposed to be? And do any of you other 07 owners notice this?
 
What your referring to is a device know as the Hydrocarbon Trap, it was a honeycombed round disk, placed inside the stock rubber intake tube for emission purposes..Ford discontinued installing these devices back in either April or May of 05..Therefore, this device doesn't apply to you..The 05's and up don't have air silencers as the previous SN-95 generation had

I rememered in the head to head CAI test that 5.0 magazine did they took out this item and it gained like 6 hp. Is this the item that you are referring to? If so then I guess only thing I can do is wait until I am able to get my new CAI/tuner in. Figured I would be able to tinker with something prior but oh well I guess I will have to wait.
 
Yes, your correct that's exactly the item I'm referring to and your car does not have it..However being that the build date of my 05 was in Febuary so unfortunately my Stang did have this item, but not for very long..After reading the 5.0 article your referring to, my very first mod was yanking that puppy out and was also able to confirm an additional 3-5 HP increase since removing it..So look at the bright side ? you have one less thing to tinker with and believe me you wouldn't have wanted to anyway..That sucker wasn't exactly very easy to remove, it was a royal pain in the a$$
 
if you go back to 8-20 and look at the pictures i posted titled intake inlet,this may be what your talking about.if it is, its more than likely there, as it has been on all of them since 1989 that i know of!:lol: :banana:
 
That's the very same pulsation tank I asked my friend about who's a Ford Field service engineer..I'm going to copy part of his e-mail that he sent me and not all 2005 Stangs had these devices, only some did...What Radtexas was asking about is if the 2005 stangs had the same air silencers that were attached to the airbox itself like in the old fox stangs from 79-93 and then on the SN-95 Stang from 94-04...So here's a copy of part of his e-mail...That is a tank to dampen intake pulsations. The picture is not the clearest but I see the intake tube and a connection to the tank below. If you remove the intake and it goes to the tank alone that is all it can be for. When we put in extra tanks like that it is for noise reduction.
Better said the tank that you are asking about is due to calibration. Calibration also includes cam lift and duration. Noise is a big issue as well as flow thru the maf sensor. Pulsations effect air flow also. These tanks (I believe) are installed due to testing and were necessary for either noise or flow reasons. Since I was not involved in the testing I really do not know.
Build date means nothing. Calibration # is the # that means which parts with this computer and programming are on your car. The # is just a number. The details are in the parts books. If you have the calibration # you can get a parts list for that #. That # will also give you a program part # for the pcm program. How it is different I could not tell you without a # of hours looking at parts books.
If you change parts without Ford and the Fed. authorizing it you are in violation of federal law. Sorry I can't go there!
 
this is what we were going back&forth with last month.the autos have them and the sticks don't.i looked at 06,07,05s today at the ford southwest show and all the autos that still had stock intake on had them.:flag:
 
I don't know if all the auto's have them or if just some auto's do ?? when I asked my friend about that..He said that it all depends on the calibration # from what he mentioned, Ford uses up to 10 different computers and each has a different calibration # so the only way to find your PCM's calibration code is request what's called an oasis report from your dealer then once you locate your cal # you have to purchase a parts or shop manual for your vehicle then you look up the number and it will tell you what parts you have that are listed under that calibration # So yep, that's what we were going back and forth over last month and I wasn't about to give up until I found an answer one way or the other..So hopefully this provides all the answers that we were all looking for...
 
i going to do some more checking on it.when i had my 94 gt imade friends with one of the svt guys in the svt dept in mich.his mom lives here in phoenix and i'm going to try and reach him.hopefully he':nice: s still got a job.
 
I installed a K&N drop in replacement filter in my 07 GT yesterday. I noticed that there is a rubber collar on the air box around the air intake opening. I thought about taking it off just to see if it made any difference, thinking back to the baffle days of my 95 GT. I left it alone because of what I've read concerning how sensitive these cars are to changes to the air intake system. Has anyone taken this thing off or have any opinions about taking it off?

I went and looked on mine and it looks like it just extends the air inlet a little. It does not seem to change the size much so don't think it would help much.

I was wondering about if on the CS (not sure there would be room on the others since the CS is supposed to have 1.5 inches more) it would benifit to install some type of air divertor in the lower air section to allow more cooler air to get to the air intake. Have not studied it enoguh yet but also wondered if the air intake was extended down to the larger air intake area on the CS if it would help also.

I wonder this because after riding around doing normal (not hard) driving conditions that it is pretty hot under this hood. And if there was some way to push a little cold air toward the air intake if the cooler air would really help much.

Any ideas out there from the wise? If there is room to extend an air duct it might make it more of a ram/cai intake but sure it wont be anything like the CAI kits out there.
 
Uniontown is about 40 min. southeast from where were located..It's amazing as to how you and your wife met, being that your from the Pheonix AZ. area and that she's originally from Uniontown PA. anyway, did she move to AZ before the 2 of you started dating ? or after ?? just curious..:flag:

I don't think it would make any real difference because there's just a small hole in the fenderwell to begin with, so the small bit of additional airflow you may get out of it won't be enough to where your going to notice anything anyhow..I wouldn't even bother wasting my time IMO :shrug:

You don't want to remove that rubber collar, it's designed as an airduct to prevent hot air from the engine bay from reaching the airfilter..At least with the collar your getting at least some colder air from the fenderwell, it may not be very much but it's better than none at all, so if I were you ?..I wouldn't remove it otherwise your car is going to end up running like crap..:shrug: besides, there's no baffles inside the collar.. it's completely hollow

you can easily fab up something to deflect the air from the lower bumper toward the intake. there is no clear shot to the intake, but you could get some cooler air going in the general direction of the intake. it would have to pass the wiring loom and headlight housing. how much would it help? i dont know. if you think it would help, then try to fabricate something. there is plenty of room under the headlight for your creation, just not actually into the engine bay.
 
well gives me something to think about. As a mechanical designer I love a good challenge. May not make it into reality but worth the thinking. I just noticed how hot it was under the hood in the garage after the drive and knew that could not be to good since the air intake still probalby gets some hot air in the intake. If some cooler air got moving in the direction of the air intake it might help keep the hotter air away. Now of course the car has to be moving for this to help if any. Even after I add a CAI if it helps any on the stock it should give the same benifit on the CAI kit. :shrug:

The reasons you mention are exactly why I decided to leave it in place.
