IS THIS WORTH FIXING & HOW HARD IS IT?

A friend's son jumped a guard rail with his 97 GT w/73K. The body and int are near mint. I looked at the car and saw the following damage. The K-member is bent, the A-arm is bent, fuel lines ripped, fuel tank punctured, axle bent and a rip in the floor board. All the body panels and doors line-up correctly. It appears to me to not be too hard to fix. The car is in a differant state than he is and he has to make a quick decision. He was given an est of $6K. The body guy told him the engine needs to be pulled to change the K-member, is this true? Any help or thoughts are appreciated. Thanks Ryan

Fixable anything is fixable for the right amount of money.

From the list of damage there I personally dont think it would be worth it, car will probably never drive right again. Would also hazard a guess that if you put it on a frame machine the measurements are going to be way out of spec.

Just my .02.

that's a lot of fixins, but if he upgrades those things that need to be replaced, maybe that would equal out to better suspension and instead of saying it was an accident he car write it off as a mod

i have to agree w\ anything is fixable my friend got an 04 gt and two days later the snow got the best of him they ended up having to cut the car in half and weld a new back end on so your job is well worth the trouble

Does anyone know if you have to pull the engine for the K member replacement? The car is in great shape, it doesn't look like it was wrecked. The damage is all underneath. The junkyard said they would give him $500. The car parted out is worth alot more.

I guess you could do it without pulling the motor completely out, but that would be unsafe more than anything. The car needs to be on a lift for that job...its not a must, but its way easier...so you would need the engine suspended in the engine bay while swapping the k-member. Its not a big deal to take the motor out...just unplugging harness and unbolting the two motor-mounts(one big nut on each)

$6000 sounds roughly about what that car is worth total in mint condition(before the wreck) I wouldn't bother fixing this one...someone else might want it as a project car, but if the k-member was bent that says to me, it took a helluva hit.

:stupid:
How much do you like this car?
Sounds to me like it will be cheaper and a whole lot easier to replace the vehicle than to do the repairs.

I guess he went up the guardrail on the passenger side and came off of it. The car was back on the ground when it stopped. The was only a scrape on the front fascia. I don't know if he hit it as it came out of the ground and slid up it or what.
