I know this post is worthless with out pics but I was in a hurry and forgot the camera. I'll get some up tomorrow.

Anyway I took a chance and ordered a set of 275/50/15 bfg drag radials from jegs and had them installed on my 15x7 weld draglites today. I took them over to the garage and put them all and they FIT!

I did have to massage the inner fender lip as it was touching just a little. I'm also going to get a 5/16 or maybe a 7/16s spacer just to be on the clear side. On the outer fender there is NO complications what so ever because the tire is actually a 1/4 shorter over all. I think they would fit better if I had them on 15x8s so there wouldn't be so much bulge but damn they look good!

My suspension setup is as follows:
5 leaf mid eye springs
Adjustable racing shackles (I have lowest hole so stock position)something like this
grab a trac shocks
stock length 9" from a ford big car
15x7 weld draglites with 4.5 backspacing

Hey step off man

J/K,we put my 275's on my buddies 65 coupe with 5 leaf mid eye springs and other then a LITTLE massaging on the inner lip, they fit better then my car.I have 1.5" lowered leafs which is too much, the 1" lowered leafs are perfect.

hey if wasn't for you I never would have thought it possible

I'm going to put a spacer on there just to make sure the clearance is good to go as its damn close as it sits right now.

get a 3 or 4 lb hammer and give your car some love,We did or I did on my buddies and then we went on a windy road and not even a scrape.I would stay away from the spacer if your goona hook really hard with DR's.

It would take a lot of love. We did some pounding on it already and it still is barely touching it. I'm talking one of those huge spacers that have their own studs just a little one so there will be some breathing room. Do you still think that would be a problem with say a 5/16 or 7/16 spacer?

if your going to use a 5/16 spacer,i would suggest at least using some longer hardened studs. The other spacers with studs are better but mught be too thick for you. What BS do you have?

Its 4.5 bs. If I had 4.75 like you do on my 15s there would be no way it would work. Its funny how diffrent these cars become from each other over the years. Are the none studed spaces junk or something? I figured due to how thin they are and that the wheel isn't riding on them really that they would be ok.

Trust me if I feel there isn't enough thread to hold onto I'll do something else....a little more ford tool probably. I'll let you know, I'm going to see if a local speed shop has a couple of spacers tomorrow and I'll take my camera this time.

Good to hear and with 15s! A big hammer puts this "impossible" myth to rest...

i needed a 5/8 to get mine to fit (shown below), but i think a 3/4 will be perfect.

Yup, the funny thing was that it was the inner fender not the outer. I don't think 275/60/15s would have worked though. I'm going to try the 7/16 if the local speed shop has it. If not I'll have to call jegs and it will be here tuesday before I can go for a test drive. I think that will give me enough slack room to be on the safe from rubbing side. I'm just pumped that I got those big meats back there!

He's still rubbing... even with a little love to the inside fender.
Plus, a 275 tire on a 7" wide rim is horrible in every fashion from a performance point of view.
So, at best one can say at this point its functionable but not practicle.

Personally, IMO I think I could fit a 275 50 in the back of Kingsford without rubbing. However, I would need at least a 9" wide rim to make it worth while and with the proper backspacing of course.

and the nay saying continues...
I'll let you know if I blow a tire and take out my quarter panel.

I apologize this was childish of me to say.

If you can then why don't you? More rubber would lead to better traction in autocross right?

I am happy you have 275s, however please don't knock people with the comment the nay sayers continue.

Once you have your 275 mouted on your 7 inch rim, put a straight edge across the contact patch and measure what is actually in touch with the ground. I will lay odds that my 255s have the same size contact patch because you have sucked in the sidewall and crowned the tire a bit.

Regardless I hope you get the performance desired from your combination and it treats you well for years to come.

Why not ? Seems like what was going on to me. He only pointed out the obvious. He said it doesn't rub. And someone who isn't there to see it, says it does. This is going to end up being the same as the thread where everybody said 12sec67 didn't have 315's. " Are you sure they are 315's ?" "They have to rub"

Because there is more too it than just putting on the widest tire on any rim.
The 275 tire really belongs on a 9" wide rim. However, once you do that the tire will become wider giving more surface contact with the ground but also closer to the wheel well. That's why I can not use such a wide tire for auto-x. When the chassis leans in a corner it would surely rub. Drag racing "maybe" I could get away with it.

I didn't mean to step on anybodys toes I just get a little touchy when somebody is trying the limits of something and people continually tell me that it won't work when they haven't tried it or seen it done themselves. Now don't take that the wrong way I'm not saying you haven't personally I'm just saying that not everybody that is telling me it won't work has.

I did measure the contact and its about 10-10.5 on the ground. A buddy of mine has 315s and he has 11.5-12 on the ground. I just gained 4-5 inches of total rubber over my 235s.

Also 2bav8 I did say it BARELY touches and when I say barely I might have been able to get a piece of paper through there but it wouldn't be safe that close. So I went out and got a 1/4 spacer which everybody I've talked to about spacers says that is a safe distance and now I have well 1/4 of room .
