Alittle more progress today. Intake ports are ported and properly fitted. Not perfect but much better then my earlier post.
Have stainless bolts installed on the front timing cover as well as the balancer and water pump final installed.

Intake still needs alittle plenum clean up.

Pretty close to putting oil in, priming and final install of Intake. Need to clean a few parts up for clear coating, then I can clear coat the intake.

Probably call my dyno guy this week and see what his back log is.

That is a "bib" drain ordered 10 on Friday as no one around has any. Pretty convenient for spring and fall water drains. This will probably get coolant starting out at least.

Well after a few days stewing on this, decided to one more round of weld and grind this intake. I have 3 ports I am not happy with.

Made it back out to shop today with one objective to wrap up the intake.
This time I made a template to transfer to the ports. Using thick poster board, need 2 pieces to make up close to the .030 gasket thickness. Worked really well as it helped me know exactly what to grind. After that I cleaned up the plenum, dividers and minor runner touch ups.

It is done next step is clear the aluminum parts and final assemble intake and front drive.

Trying to get to the dyno in the next month or so.

Nah...she only had to move a few miles to dyno shop. I made it no problem.

I also flicked the stap and mumbled that ain't going anywhere.

Probably a good idea on coming home....as that is a longer drive.

On the dyno. He is going to fire tomorrow afternoon. Headers are too narrow for dyno so he has to borrow a set.

Long story short he had it running the Wednesday prior to Labor day. Dyno was going to be that Friday prior to Labor day.

We had some storms come through just as he started it up on Wednesday. There was a close by lightning strike that he thought took out the throttle actuator. He had ordered a actuator for delivery that Saturday. Well it ended up taking the whole control box. Anyway he got it fixed this week! He has it running, break-in, retorque head/intake, adjust valves. Everything is ok so far. He said he had it to 5K.

So dyno day is now THIS Saturday!

Ok results finally!

It was a family/friend event with my neighbor, 2 friends, mom and dad wife and daughter. Dyno guy was OK with it I think, hey atleast I gave him a heads up

15 pulls, 11 of which were chasing a bad PV in this carburetor.

We only made a few today and we're wrapped up by 12pm. We plugged the PV and started cutting fuel by re-jetting.

Best was 597hp/532 ft/lbs. On 93 unleaded with 10% ethanol.

We played alittle with fuel at the end with a blend of 90 rec fuel and 110 race fuel. If nothing else it told me it is so close in HP that for long term storage over the winter it didn't kill hp too bad.

Honestly was hoping for 700ish. I guess that was a lofty goal!

This works out 1.39 hp/CID. I sware my 331 made 1.65 hp/CID but never ran a engine dyno just 470rwhp.

Those are some good numbers man. That must have been one bad ass 331. Mine is pretty well sorted out hydraulic roller motor and it made right at 460 on the engine dyno.

Ran this dyno sheet into ai and all particulars including cam info. This concludes the lowered then expected HP. Not looking to upgrade the heads and intake anytime soon.

Thanks! I only heard of one other making that much steam and that was a member on here, forget who. You can look back in this thread on the particulars. I had a wheel dyno at one point show 510rwph! At the track it would pick up 30mph on the back half and ran a best of 129mph in the quarter. Best run ever was 11.1.
It loved rpm, but had great street manors down low. Block showed cap walk in all the registers upon tear down.

With respect to the AI analysis, it's close but a little off on the details. The vacuum drop is most likely measured at the intake plenum or maybe an intake manifold runner, and has nothing to do with cylinder head port volume. If it's measured at the plenum volume, I think your carburetor is a tad too small for the combination and the source of the vacuum drop, especially if you ran it without an air cleaner. Here's what's on the table: 1" of mercury is 33 mBar of air pressure. If we assume a sea-level reference for density, 33 mBar / 1013 mBar is roughly 3.3% or 19.7 HP.

That being said, on an EFI engine with a full induction system (air box, zip tube, and MAF), a 33 mBar pressure drop (pre-throttle) is pretty good. Most factory engines these days seriously over-size the throttle to make sure that it is not a restriction.

Can't wait to see the time slips coming from this one!

Thanks for the information! Pro Systems agrees with you. The carburetor is over 1000 CFM with four 1.6 venturis.

They mentioned that I will lose signal down low with a larger carburetor, but it will make more horsepower at 600 RPM/sec on a 3K sweep dyno pull. At the strip, it should hit hard from 4000–7000 RPM and have plenty of wet flow to handle the sudden shock coming off the 2-step at almost any rpm.

This poor car is going to get ripped apart or break the drivline
