JLT CAI installed...one question...

Hi guys...

I just unlocked the beast with a JLT CAI and 93 octane tune from Brenspeed. So far, everything is well with no error codes. I know i've read it before but until you experience yourself you can't believe the power increase especially with an auto tranny.

Just one question. When you replace the PCV hose with the hose that comes with the JLT CAI do you need to put clamps on both end of hose to keep it from falling off? It goes on firm but will it loosen over time with wear?

I've recently installed the same setup(JLT CAI&SCT XCAL2) in my car(05 GT MT), I have a question about the tune your running. Did you attempt to use the 93 octane tune preprogrammed into the XCal2? If so, what were the results? I noticed pinging/detonation at WOT from about 5,000 RPM's on up. Have you experienced anything similar? I am going to contact JLT concerning this issue, but I was also wondering if ordering a custom tune from a dealer such as Brenspeed would solve anything. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Where did you get your SCT XCal from?... did you get it from JLT directly? My JLT tune in my XCal was spot on. Are you sure the 93 Octane gas you have in there is good gas? Or did you run out all the 87 gas as well?

I ordered the JLT CAI/SCT Xcal2 combo directly from JLT. I made sure to completely empty the tank before refilling it with 93 Octane BP. I am currently running the 87 Octane tune and have had no problems. I wonder if it is simply a matter of fine tuning or might I have a bigger problem. I'm also curious if I were to order a custom tune from another tune shop, would that help or would I still have the same problem? I'd like to have the flexibility of running whatever tune I'd choose without any problems. Thank You for your input

ok Im a Noob, but I believe if you are running the 93 tune that came with your sct, of course its going to ping. That tune would make its power by leaning the engine, and you used the cai to lean it even more. Get a 93 tune for that cai like the other guys.

He got his tuner from JLT, so it has a 93 Octane tune in it for the JLT cai.

I've just spoke to Jay @ JLT and he advised me to contact SCT directly. I called SCT and they told me that first I should take out some timing and see if that does the trick(wouldn't that decrease the overall performance a bit?) if that doesn't work call them back @ JLT and see if a new program may be necessary. I wonder if the brand of gas may be lousy. I always thought BP was the good stuff. What brand of gas are all you using?

Is there a difference in the tunes provided by JLT vs. the ones provided by Brenspeed or any other tuning shop. If the tune is for the same CAI(JLT) shouldn't the tune be the same? Or are there many variables from one tuning shop to the next?

I bought my JLT from Jay (all versions ;) ) and my tune from Brent at DTP via e-mail. I just had my car dynoed a week ago and with JLT2, DTP tune, and Magnaflow axlebacks. I put down 300 rwhp and 312 rwtq. And that is going through my big, heavy 19" wheels. I was going to have Steve at Powertrain Dynamics dyno tune the car, but when he ran it he said the tune seems good to go. I had him look over the parameters to make sure the tune was safe, and it was. He showed me a couple of his tunes with JLTs that got a little higher numbers, but the curves looked the same.

If you use a reputable tuner and you don't have a bunch of crazy mods you should be safe

good numbers GP!!

I was quite shocked. Temps were in the 80s, 91 octane California gas. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't taken it to such a reputable tuner. We did 3 pulls and they were all right there. I was expect 280-290 to be honest.

Has anybody discovered what the horsepower difference is between a JLT with a 91 octane tune and one with only an 87 octane tune? Is it worth the additional price of the 91 octane gas?
