JR, RC, anyone else... Gauge cluster question

Yep the whole thing :nice:

I took off the pass side yesterday, sanded through some of the metallic gold that I had painted it last year, then put the 2 coats of primer on it. Tonight and tomorrow, Ill put the red on it..then Wed, Ill clear coat it, then Thur, Ill put it back on..
Because this piece is grabbed and handled, it needs to be done right!

Also JR, have you thought about painting the little cup around the handle? ( I looked at the pic of the Roush interior in my other post, and that was also colored  ..I may do that too.

I never thought of that. You may want to wait and see if the cups will be sufficient for the balance and if you feel the urge why not do them. It's all about the uniqueness unless it looks terrible. You can always get an extra pair on ebay if you don't like it. :D

RC, is the primer that should be used for this application a specific one or will any primer and clear work?

Oh, and does the primer need to be scuffed? If so, with what grit?
Thanks alot. :nice:
You want to wet sand primer with a 400 (I use 600) grit (black) wet sanding paper until it is smooth to touch. Sand lightly and evenly with lots of water and fast strokes.

I have never wet sanded after primer..I use 400 grit, but not to scuff, just very lightly brush over it to get the "sandy feeling" smoothened out. Remember, by nature, the paint will stick to the primer...it doesnt not have to be "roughed" up.

Here is the door cup from just now, after 2 light coats..Im gonna let it sit overnight, do another light sanding tomorrow, and put a couple more coats...then put the clear on Wed and install on Thurs.
You cant be too carefull with a piece like this, since it's going to be "handled" a lot.

Looks nice RC! I've been slackin and havent painted in a few days... Looks like you'll be done before me. I'll need to see yours in person and I still say you need to paint the clock pod... I'll get pictures of mine soon.

Dont have a clock pod..just the clock gauge pod..And that is TOO big IMO to paint that.
