Long post Summary...
1.Grinding from under car sounds like trany... Could it be back axle low on Lube???
2.Car tends to get hot after getting on the gas??? is this normal???
3. Whats beter for street and some track use... 3.73... or 4.11...
3. What Size gears will i need for the rear 8.8??

Just picked up a 95 gt vert for $3900 very clean... but 200k miles on it... ive had it for about 3 days... just started hearing a grinding noise when i put it in to first gear... and some times on other gears as well... I just figured 200k old 5 speed trany might make some noise... but it wasnt doing it like 3 days ago when i picked up the car... I got it up on a lift... and put it in gear and listened... It sounded like the grinding was comming from the rear axle... Checked the fluid and i put my finger in and couldnt feel any... Would this be the cause of this grinding noise... Sorry if its a dumb question... New to RWD cars... lol... Also what transmission comes on the 95??? and gear set up... will 3.73's be good for the street if i wanna change these out... ALso what size set of 3.73's will i need...

Another Possibe problem:
Just after i really get on the car it tends to heat up in to the "A" part of the temp gauge... Just wondering if it was normal of this car or if i might be needing a water pump in the neer future

Info i posted on probe talk about the car:

The owner was a woman in her 50's she was a teacher in north NJ and i bought it from south NJ... She had like a 120 mile round trip to work and home... So the milage is all highway... She owned it for 10 years... and took great care of it... always garage kept never driven in the snow... detailed like once a month....The title that they gave me for it had 18,107 on it... they bought it from someone that leased it for a year... But the car pulls hard... scared my self a few times... Came out of the car wash and got on it and the thing decided to go all squirley on me... Clutch catchs a little high for my liking... so gonna fix that... But it chirps third at 4k RPMS... lol and i havent had the balls to take it past 80 yet.... lol
But other wise i think it is a good car... Next thing im doing is a cat back... Then intake and Mani, H pipe, Headers, gears... 373's probally.. And i think ill leave it there and work a 5.0 on the side with a set of trick flow heads... just incase this one decided it wants to go...

For thoes who are intrested Pics of the car...

Stock trans is a Borg Warner T5.

If it made grinding noise while the car was stationary, I'd check the trans forward for the noise. Do fill up the rear end though. Do the same check for the trans fluid. The trans uses Mercon ATF.

You'll want to get some real gauges at some point (water temp and oil pressure at a min).

It's a good lookin ride Adam - enjoy!

Thanks for the help... It only seemed to grind going in to gear while moving... most onf the time while i was turning... but i did get it to do it in hear on a lift... it seemed to be comming from the back axle thanks for the trans info as well... would not of thought to put ATF in there... would of throw in GM synco like the probe... Gonna take awhile adapting to a new car and different tune style. Having an aftermarket is nice...

Yea im sad i got rid of all my gauges with my probe... but new car means time for new toys... ill either pick up a piller or ditch the clock...

On another note... How much heavier are the verts then the coupes ??? Ive heard 96 pounds and 200 pounds... I love to go to the track... and 200 pounds will slow me down alot... whats the HP/Weight loss ratio for the GT's... Also whats the 5 speed gt verts run stock... it feels alot slower then the probe did and i know ive taken down a few mustang Gt's at the track with the probe... but they were auto... im guessing about 15.3 ish stock??? hopefuly after the intake and exhaust are done ill be down in mid 14's thank god 5.0's respond to bolt ons nicely

Just got back from the shop... rear gear oil was like black... kinda like a dark chocolate milk... everything looked good inside though... Put it back up on the lift in to gear and hit the gas and went through the gears... 4th gear was a little loud... but there was no more noise from the back axle... Now just incase this trans decides to take a poop on me will all t-5's fit or is there a special transmission for 94-95 5.0

Vert's always seem to get a little leeway when it comes to ET's. If it's 200# heavier, then it should be in the the neighborhood of .2-.3 seconds slower.

I can't believe that you get 601.3 miles out of 3/4 of a tank of gas! Hahahahahahahaha!

It's a sharp car. I've always loved that color.

94/95 have there own t5 kinda soft of lol, our input shaft is 5/8 longer then the foxes (87-93). Figure out what would be cheaper replace it or rebuild it, astroperformance.com sells them (rebuild kit as well) and ddperformance.com sells rebuild kits as well (were I got mine).

Also for the running hot check under the rad and see if you are missing the air dam. It's a black plastic peice that attaches right under the rad and redirects air to the rad and helps with cooling. Look at the pic you posted see that black plastic peice under the bumper, it should go all the way around. If it doesn't your missing the air dam center peice.

Nice call... It was missing... gotta hit up a junkyard... thats one less thig to worry about... now lets just hope this tranny is fine...is there any way to make a 79-93 tranny fit in to a 95??? ive looked around localy with no hope of a tranny... only thing i can find is stuff from fox bodys... once again thanks for the help

The fox trans can be made to work with some hosing.

Also, for that center air dam, check the dealer - I paid 12 bucks for a new one. It's about the same price on www.50resto.com .

Good luck.

A is a bit warm. it could be a faulty ground strap (black wire on the drivers side that runs from the motor mount to the chasis near the fuse box) or maybe its just time to change the coolant

gears for the 8.8 are for sale all over the place. most times you can get a good deal on ebay if you dont mind used

3.73's should work out well if you do any highway driving

Yes, if you buy/use a t5 for a fox have to use the fox bellhousing and possibly the clutch fork (don't hold me to that). Also you will need a 5/8 space for the tranny. Remeber our (94/95) t5's a 5/8 longer so by switching to a fox you will be 5/8 shorter thus need a 5/8 spacer. Steeda.com sells a spacer for this purpose, my .02 is rebuild yours and be done with it.....

Well had it up on the lift today tranny sounds fine it only tends to make the sound when im turning a corner and giving the car gas... mostly right turns... something must be scraping somewhere... thats all i can think of... any other sugestions

as far as i have heard verts are running high 15's even low 16's stock..

5 speed vert should run 15.3 stock not high 15 or 16. The reason it chirps after 4k is because it usually runs out of steam and just revs. When you put it into the next gear and hit the gas it will grap and thus chirp. :)

Another Quick question and more info on other problem:

Just grids when acceling through a turn doesent matter if im just putting it in to gear, something is obviously scraping....

Will an 88 GT motor fit in my 95 5.0.... I got a great deal $250 on a 88gt motor with 85k on it... ALso has a fordmotorsport b or e cam.... and Ford motorsport headers...

Will fox body shorties fit the 95??? if so im gonna pick up this motor...

the motor will fit all you would need is to take off the timing chain cover since its a different from the fox body mustangs and to make the rest of the accesorries fit right the accessories ie, alternator, power steering pump etc..
the headers wont fit because of the egr valve on the 94-95 mustangs the tube that comes out of the egr goes directly into the header the earlier year mustang did not.
