just picked up an 88 lx 5.0 5 speed california car for $2,000. engines stock, shorty headers, flowmasters, rebuilt tranny with cobra internals, rebuilt posi rear, 96,000 original miles, 5 lug conversion up front with 15" pro stars. body is good, cobra body kit, only damage is where the cowl hood came up on the highway and bent up the cowl and dented roof. currently has a primered 86 hood on it. nice navy blue metallic paint job. a/c and heat work. sound like i got a good deal? i wanna start tearin into it but i dont know if theres anything specail bout the 88 cali cars.

sounds like you might have gotten a good deal, but cowl damage can be pretty rough... if you're happy with the car though that's all that matters

1988 Mustangs sold new in CA. came with MAF instead of speed density. Congrats on your first 5.0.
Its impossible that it has an '86 hood on it, its shaped differently on the front end. That is, unless its just laying there, haha.
88 Cali cars were the first to receive Mass Air metering, so mechanically, your car is no different from everybody else's 89-93 car (for the most part). Don't quote me on this, but IIRC all Cali cars had a different computer tune, only for emissions reasons I believe.

Haha, do something, that hood could probably be pretty dangerous. I imagine it catches a lot of air at highway speed.
Buy a fiberglass hood and just bolt it on. Paint it later. Your next immediate task is 5 lug rear wheels.

it was like that when i bought it smart one
.......anyways, im definately doin a rear 5 lug conversion next. and im probly just gonna take the hood off my 93 coupe. the car had been sitting in a garage for a couple of years while the guy was doing a cobra conversion on it, he ran into some financial problems and needed to sell it. the cowl hood flew off on the highway and the 4 eye hood was all he had layin around, that would be somewhat retarded to convert to 4 eye lol.
