Ever try to mount a low profile tire before? Just cause its a stock mustang size doesn't mean it aint a bitch to mount. I see that extra charge everywhere and its a huge pain in the ass to mount a low profile tire without the accessory on the tire machine to aid the tire to stay in the drop center. I did a set of 255/40's and 275/40s many times and each time was a huge pain in the ass to not fudge the rim up, regardless, that shop sounds like a bunch of jerk offs anyway.

No but for real, I can see an extra charge on some extreme tire size, but 245/45s are not exactly rubber bands.

That is why i just bring them the wheels. They don't need the entire car to change a tire



In their defense, they could get into SERIOUS trouble if an inspector ever walks into the place and sees a car with no cats or emmissions equipment. A lot of "by the books" mechanics and muffler places will not work on a car without cats. Sounds like that place was really by the book.

i agree dude. i was an auto tech for a few years and anything 50 series or less can be a major pain in the ass to mount. my 315/35/17's i almost thought were gonna be impossible.

i worked most recently as a tech for toyota and the 215/45/17 scion TC tires are horrible, and the 215/50/17 solara tires arent a ton better. i loved it when i did tires on a regular old camry, especially the 195/70/14

so yeah, tires with only a modest amount of sidewall have to be positioned just right and have the right pressure in the right places because there isnt enough stretch/flex in them to stretch them around the rim into position

but anyway the shop probably did push the issue too much with the threat to report it, no one ever said anything about any of my cars the few times they have ever been to a shop, though one shop refused to delete one of the cats from my F150 when installing my flowmaster cat-back. cant blame them though, they can get in a ton of trouble
