For those of you running the Kenne Bell 9psi kit, are you having to use an octane booster or can you run 92 octane gas without problems? The website seems to indicate that you need to use race gas or an octane booster above 6 psi, but all the articles about the supercharger seem to indicate that a step colder plugs plus 92 octane pump gas will be fine. Which is it?

Mine is not yet completely installed. But KB says in their manual that premium pump gas will be fine. But it also says to always carry around a can of NOS octane boost just in case you get a bad tank of gas. I'm running colder plugs on mine also. You can pm Brightblue00GT and he will let you know. He has had his since august I believe.

:) Go to the Kenne Bell site and at the very end of the tech section for the 4.6 they have a chart which shows the octane needed for the non intercooled & intercooled Kenne Bell superchargers at various boost levels. I believe it shows 92-94 octane for the intercooled with 9 lb boost.

It what actually led me to post. In the FAQ section they say at 5-6 psi requires 92/93 Octane and that 94 will allow another 1-2 psi of boost. If they are saying in the owners manual that premium or 92 octane is fine for the 9 psi kit, that's good enough for me. It doesn't make sense that they'd put out a "street" 9 psi kit where you had to use race gas, but then again, I didn't want to take anything for granted.

KB recommends 91 octane for the 9 psi IC kit. They suggest using 100+ octane gas only when you increase boost or, if you have the switch chip, run on the shoot out mode. The shootout mode will set the spark timing @ 23* and lean the engine a bit, and hence their recommendation. You should also use colder plugs. All these will make your engine less prone to detonation. That way you will enjoy your kit on your stock block for many years to come :nice:
