Key-in Chime KILLING me

Im not sure if all mustangs are like this, but, my 94GT Key-in chime will ding constantly if the key is in any of the on positions, running or not, with the door open. It never used to do it, until i removed the tumbler to get the plastic column cover off.

I put in a brand new tumbler, and it still does it. Does anyone have any ideas? im about ready to snip the wire and forget about it.

Also, before i removed the tumbler that started this problem, it did the same constant dinging when the lights are on, even with the car running, anytime you open the door, it would ding away, but only when the lights where on, now it does it all the time.

I just got under the dash and unplugged the noise box and took it out. Its easy to do, just a pain to get to. It's next to your right foot under the dash/console.

There's a small wire that clips on to the part of the steering column that the ignition cylinder slides into. This single wire drives the door chime. If it does not touch the ignition lock cylinder when you remove the key, the chime goes on. The wire is held on by a cheap plastic clip and has a tendency to break off. My clip broke and I simply wrapped electrical tape around the steering column to hold the wire in place.

Another problem you can get is if the "ears" on the ignition lock cylinder break loose and rotate independently of the key. The chime would sound until you rotated the "ears" back to match the key. I have this problem on my Red Gt now, it's annoying. Of course, you replaced the ignition lock cylinder so that's not the problem.

My bet is the sensor wire has fallen off. You'll need to take the bottom plastic off of the steering column to see it; you shouldn't need to take off the top plastic. It should be obvious where it's supposed to go; there's a notch in the metal it fits in.

Ill have to take a peek at it again, but from what i can recall, it was still attached, maybe ill take out the cylinder again, and give that little tab a bend, and see what happens.
