Kickpanel with Speaker holes

I've read a few things about them and peoples trouble getting speakers to fit in them. I'm just wondering what size speaker do people use on a average. I have a brand new set of 5 1/4" JBL speakers sitting in a box I'd like to use but I'd rather not spend the money for kickpanels and not be able to use them.

Any info will help, thanks.

They should work, I have 6" speakers in mine. The only problem with the fit that I think you'll run into is with the depth of the speaker. They can only go back so far (couple inches).

They're not pre-cut (at least the ones I got) when you get them and cutting the holes for the speakers in 'em took a while. I used my electric saw and the plastic got so hot while I was cutting it just melted the plastic back together so I had to keep cutting over and over again. It took awhile but it's worth it, I just had two 6X9's behind the back seat and a sub in the trunk. The addition of the kickpanel speakers is like night and day. Perhaps someone else on the forum knows a better way to cut the holes in them.

I have a set and recommend against them: you shouldn't have to measure speaker depth! I'm either going to find an alternate mounting location (suggestions anyone?) or fab some of my own.

I have what I consider a fairly shallow set of 5 and quarter speakers and they won't fit. Luckily I got mine cheaply second hand.

There is an opening in the metal panel (to access the door hinge bolts), behind the speaker hole in the kick panel. It is very easy to enlarge this hole to accomodate the speaker magnet. If your still too shallow, you can mount the speaker on a spacer.

If you look at this picture, you can see the opening I'm talking about.
