For one thing SHHHEEEESHHHHHHHHHHH! Those injectors are WAAAAAYYYYY too small. Who recommneded 19# injectors with that combo? That is a great way to KILL ur engine.

more information on the knock?? Like metal to metal, topend, bottom end. That info will help.. First guess if its top end would be a loose rocker and second would be valves hitting.. Bottom end would most likely be a rod bearing.

Yes I know I'm working on that issue later! This is a bit more serious.

Not sure where. We (dad-in-law and me) think it's top end but it seems to be under manifold in the middle..Could be the bottom too it's hard to disiguish! I we would say it was metal on metal.

No we had the covers off to look at the rockers while the engine was running.

If it's a ptv issue....then the damage is most likely already done.

does it feel like it's down on power?

Ok. I just thought that could be part of the issue. Out of the box question but could it be a loose motor mount? Sometimes noises can kinda mask themselves as something else. I am hoping it is not serious.

Start with the easy stuff...

You said you pulled a valve cover - did you pull both to make sure a rocker didn't jump off? Pushrods still feel loaded correctly?

How does the car idle? Is it rough like a miss?

Compression/leakdown test will tell you more and is easy/quick to do.

Ok guys, first I would like to thank you all for your input. The Knocking noise has gone away and it runs pretty good. We took the top end apart again and RE adjusted everything again just to make sure. the only thing we can think of is that when put in the Harmonic Damner we might have knock the crank back just enough to strike either the connecting rods ot the pistons just barely. I started it up last night and it knock very little at first and then none at all. The Idle is rough though (which it did that before) and we timed it a about 19* and it runs alot better (well.. as good as the little injectors will let it). I took it for a drive today and I have no issues (except the fuel system change which will come in do time )

19* base timing!?

If you set it at 19* base timing with the spout conector out i'd say your running to much timing unless your running race fuel or 93+octane booster, thats alot of timing to be running, in the upper rpms full load that would be like 45* of total timing!

I mean I guess if there is no pinging it is fine but I wouldnt feel safe that high.

What size pushrods you running. Did you buy the top end kit for 5.0 specific? Did you call tf and ask what parts to buy and the right size? You could have your rockers tightened to much. I always start with a half turn after zero lash. Some people start at 3/4 turn. Way too much imo. I never had to readjust after 1/2 turn. Nice and quiet.

Actually ... 19 at the dizzy would only be 34 for a total advance
if
You don't count any adders and are talking WOT only

Of course at mid level loads you could see values
in the mid to high 40's

Grady,

that just seemed like a lot of base timing...but of course, he's running aluminum heads so I guess that would help out a bit.
