Im really bummed now, not simply because I need a new block now, but mostly because Im TOTALLY out of funds for at least a year or 2 with having put in my pool. I dont regret my pool, because it's for the kids, but as of now, I dont really feel doing anything with the car....Im afraid it's gonna sit and rot.

I dont want to "throw" stuff on there just to get it running...I really wanted to do it right this time....prolly a solid low comp 306 and keep the Vortech.

I dont know if Ill be on much till then, maybe just reading and researching.

Guess it happens to all of us at some point.

Thanks

Is your car blowing smoke or having serious problems? If not then just forget about the injection kit u were gonna do, and just keep it the same. No reason not do drive it. Just have fun with it until the motor dies or something, then let it sit and rot. I understand if you want to drive it less, but unless its not driveable i dont see why all of a sudden your motor is worthless, ya know?

Re ring and bearing that ****** and drive it. Rings and bearings are cheap, Plus you can hone it yourself with either the stone type or the monkey ballhoner. I'd say a couple of hundred bucks between parts/gaskets/misc. At least crack the block or break some pistons berofre you give up on it!

Well, that's the reason I did the test first...to make sure the inj kit was ok to put on... I can still drive it a little, I just dont want oil to squirt out the dipstick and cause an engine fire.

SQUEEZEandSTROKE: Im not spending a penny on "patching" it up. Id rather cut my losses up front and start over....yeah I guess I can drive it a bit, but as above...dont want any fires.

Take the blower off and build a killer n/a combo :D

Just keep driving it and save up then decide what is best to do. My dipstick will pop out a tad too, but not much. No oil comes out though. Did this on my 302 as well.

You know better than anybody that that WAS my plan...just wanted it to be a little later...Also, after spending the $600 for the Vortech rebuild, and seeing the results of the Meth Inj kit...I really an anxious to keep the blower and just "settle" for 450 RWHP (this can be done "SAFELY" with a good tune and the inj kit.)

Thanks

I see your point, Do it right the first time...I have done this too! You can however buy a nice set of forged dihsed pistons and have the rotating assembly balaced and make it nice for less than buying a whole new motor...just an option...but once again, I would probably save up and buy a bad dude331 or something!

Laser, i have $300 in my new engine....

go to corral and watch man there are all sorts of things on there... i got my short block for $400, drove an hour and a half to get it, got it home, i did new Cleveite 77 bearings ($60) and new piston rings ($70) and a high volume oil pump ($55) so thats $595 total... BUT it came with a timing chain cover an e-cam, a new sweet aftermarket Harmonic balancer and oil pan and stuff which i sold and got about $280-$300 back!

Not bad for a freshly rebuilt 306.. :nice:

Mike, youre the guy I been following data-wise, since you have a stage 2 kit with Vortech and 306.. Since I need a long block (currently with stock heads) It's is prolly cheaper to just get a fully assemble or almost full long block.

My Timing cover/chain is about 2-yrs old, I have a 50 oz Romac (what's yours?)

Im wondering if my 36's will be enough injector If Im using the snow kit under boost...If not, Im in for new injectors and a $100 ProM recal.

Thanks

booo its all just a drop in the bucket to you mr i make 150k+ a year hehe.. Just whip up a new shortblock
Normally, YEAH, youre right, but I have a $35,000 credit car bill for the pool right now...it's only a few % interest, but that still adds up to $170 interest per month.

After doing some initial research, it may be just as cheap to do a 331, which is what I may do.

Rob that sux! These blowers are tricky. I learned my lesson (expensive one) and that's why I'll be N/A for awhile. Maybe a small shot of nitrous down the road but for now I'm going back to simpler times. That $35,000 could have got you into the 7's easy.

Rob, I think you are a little too worried about nothing here. My dipstick blows out too, well it did until I put the breather on. Does it only blow out when you really get on it, or during normal driving?

something like that, he states it very often
:bs: (said jokingly)
I NEVER say what I make.. Others have said that, knowing what pharmacists usually make.

Joe: I talked to Toby today...(guy that sent the CHP est. you saw). He said that The 331 block that he gave me quote on (really 347 but same $$) will MORE than stand up to a blown car with the Snow kit with the right compression...Eades is in the mid 500's...Im looking to be in the mid 400's with the Snow kit, 331 and 8-10 lbs Boost, Conservatively...only problem is needing to wait.

Paul... the Dipstick in it of itself is not the issue....that prompted me to get the leakdown test, with the results you see. Do "you" think those are "good" leak down results? (just out of curiousity, have you done one on your car?)

The local guy that suggested the leak down put his car on a dyno awhile back, squirted oil out of the dipstick and had his engine catch on fire while on the dyno...He said if he had been on the highway, he would have pulled over and watched the car burn... He was lucky it was on a dyno with a fire extinguisher.

As far as your comment about the breather...if the results had shown some cylinders in the teen %, but none >15%, we would have gotten the Snow kit today and put an extra breather on to help with what you did.

Thanks for all the input so far.

Blowing oil from the dipstick never set my car on fire. Generally with the hood down there is nopt much air to keep the fire going. Anyways, when I installed my performer rpm II...I had a pinched pcv hose (the one that goes from the valve cover to the air box) and that was blowing up my dipstick. I made several passes at the strip blowing out so much smoke from the oil burning on the header that people thought my engine blew up everytime I made a pass. Then I put a plug on the dip stick top to stop this and then the pressure blew out my rear intake manifold seal while I was auto crossing and the oil now comes out of there. Since then I relocated that pcv hose and all is well. Except I still have to take my manifold off to fix the rear leak (which I'm too lazy to do, but its also not that bad anymore). Sorry I got off topic...but check your pcv system before you do anything rash, especially if the car seems to be running fine. Have you noticed any power losses?
