Lets compare the New 2005-2008 Stangs to the Fox stangs...

Here is my comparison:)

The 05-08 4.6 3V's are:

- Faster
- Handle Better
- Brake Better
- More Refined
- Less Squeeks
- Smooth
- Etc.

than a stock 5.0L.

Yeah, but comparing them is really like apples to oranges.

I deny the possiblity that almost 30 years of advancement would net us a better car...

I wouldn't mind the mid 9 second GT500 that was at the track yesterday. Probably gets mid 20 mpg, rides smooth as silk, sounds amazing, and was probably smoother, quieter, and a much beter ride than 99.999995% of the foxes anywhere near that race track. :D

This is an opinion, a lot of guys will say foxes are better cars, but in my eyes, just the fact the S197s are newer alone make them something better.

If you are looking for a Porsche or BMW, I would look a little deeper into your wallet. Then you are not driving around a Mustang anymore, if you are into that sort of thing.

The S197's are only harder to work on, if you have not worked on them before.

I like the fact that they are cleaner and the bolts are not "stuck" and the chances of bolts breaking is much less. In that sense, they are easier:)

ANY car that's about 20 years old is going to be "harder" to work on, if you take things like wear and corrosion and dirt/grease into consideration. About 95% of work on Foxes requires wrench-turning and physical adjustments, whereas AT LEAST 25% of tweaking a modern 3v 4.6L into shape requires programming and electronic doohickies that Joe Bloe the Shadetree Mechanic usually won't have on hand, nor can he afford (which means taking it to a pro shop and dishing out more money).

Basically, to compare an S197 to a Fox, you must do this:

Fox = Apples
S197 = Oranges

Each has their own merits and flaws. Personally, I think they're equally great, overall, but the way my budget is (and probably always will be), a Fox is all that I'll ever be able to afford ... at least until the used S197 market brings them far enough down in price that mere mortals can afford them without sacrificing their souls to the dark credit gods... :D

My brother has an 86 Blue GT, and an 06 Blue GT... The new GT is bone stock with an axle back and runs 13.7, the 86 had a basic explorer combo and runs 12.1. They are night and day different. He likes them for different reasons.
