Lets compare the New 2005-2008 Stangs to the Fox stangs...

Those cars are completely different, It's like comparing a Model T to a Ferrari Enzo. I remember working at our local Ford dealership, and getting to go on test drives with one of the mechanics (no license at the time). Whenever I got the chance to drive a new GT, I jumped at it. Those cars have great power, it's refined, drives smooth, and looks great. I love my '91 5.0, and always will, but to compare those two cars, it's nearly impossible.

My brother has an 86 Blue GT, and an 06 Blue GT... The new GT is bone stock with an axle back and runs 13.7, the 86 had a basic explorer combo and runs 12.1. They are night and day different. He likes them for different reasons.

12.1 on an 86 with only an explorer upper and lower and maybe GT40p's.....that seems a bit faster than you would imagine.

You should see my E7 stock cammed, bolt ons car running high 12s on 18" tires...

:D

Yeah 12.17 @ 110. stock motor, stock cam, GT40Ps, Cobra intake, TB, MAF, rockers, 3.55s, exhaust, some suspension, also gets mid to upper 20 mpg! :nice:

FIXED- see three posts below. BUT, left the short story..

I overheard a guy in one of my classes talking to this hot blonde about how he just bought a brand new mustang. He was telling her how fast it is, that the exhaust is loud, how nice the interior is, etc. I ended up jumping into the convo and asked him about it. I asked him, is it a v6 or v8? He wasn't sure. Does it have a GT emblem on the side? Again, he wasn't sure. Is it a manual transmission or automatic? His answer- I think its manual but it uses auto too. Needless to say, the guy isn't too knowledgable about cars. After class, we went to check his car out and it ended up being a 07 GT, automatic. I was honestly thinking it was going to be a V6 but I was wrong. He started it up and it sounded ok, had stock exhaust. The girl wanted to know what kind of mustang I had so I told her I would bring it around, it was only parked around the corner in the parking garage. As soon as I started my car, I set off two alarms- perfect timing lol. Drove it to where they were standing next to his car and sure enough set off another alarm right next to his. I know sound isn't eveything but you should have saw both their faces. The girl then said, you guys should race. I was like, im down (I'm not into street racing except for the once in awhile light to light). The other guy kinda laughed and said maybe another time. My fox doesn't have very many mods, so he probably could have taken me- not sure. Kinda wish he said yes now but oh well.

Sorry... hard to keep it short with a story behind it and my love for fox mustangs. Is this better?

2005-2008 Mustangs: monthly payments + higher insurrance, smoother ride, no or less squeeks, more hp stock

Fox Mustang: Paid for- no monthly payments, lower insurrance-saved money for more mods, pushed back in your seat fast feeling, fun to drive, more squeeks/rattles but thats what the radio and loud exhaust is for (and boost if your lucky), my opinion- best body stlye

2005-2008 Mustang Owners (not all): Different type of mustang owner, most of the time know nothing about cars/mustangs, have the money to spend, want to fit in, like horses so why not get a mustang, mommy or daddy buys them one, just for the looks

Fox owners (most of them): Understands the value of a clean fox, understands the hidden value of a not so clean fox, does all or most of the repairs/mods on his/her own, has shed blood working on it, torn up hands, has scrapes and scratches, knows the car inside and out, knows what makes a mustang a mustang- respects the mustang name, shows his or her appreciation for other mustangs but especially for other fox stangs- nods/waives to fellow fox owners, becomes a part of his/her car

That's my experience (in general) as well. I only personally know 2 people with 05+ GTs and neither one even changes their own oil. Both are bone stock. The one guy is thinking about having a speed shop put a catback on for him.

All my friends that drive foxes have modded cars and have modded them with their own 2 hands.

There is a Foose Mustang GT in town and a few other 05+ GTs that I have given a nod, a waive and or a thumbs up to several times while driving my fox. Each time, the driver of these cars has just ignored me. wtf

As far as the cars themselves...I've only ridden in one was a 05+ GT California. It was a bone stock, manual trans vert and although not very fast it handled REALLY well. Seemed like the power came on gradually, firm chassis, quiet ride, stock exhaust actually sounded pretty good. Cost him around $30,000 though.

Thanks but no thanks. I'll take a nice fox anyday even with the rattles and bad brakes (working on that) Mine's paid for and tons of fun for the money.

Exactly..... I usually just stick to giving a nod or thumbs up to other fox mustangs but once in awhile I'll give one to a newer mustang, it usually gets ignored. I have noticed that I get nods/thumbs up/waives and responses from classic stangs, the ocassional 03-04 cobra, some saleens, even a GT500 the other day. A 98 cobra pulled up next to me at a light and we talked about our cars for a minute. I just moved but I use to live around the corner from a guy with a 03 cobra. He was always working on his car-adding mods, etc. When I was doing my heater core install, he drove by and stopped and asked me what was up. But anways, he always would give me the thumbs up when driving by on the road. I do think it has something to do with having an appreciation for our cars and a part of that is because we do all or most of the work ourselves and have shed the blood, etc. It is a definitely a good feeling for me to get a nod from a really nice classic driving by.

From every practical standpoint.....S197>FOX across the board. Hands down!

I'll be bold here and say that any high points a person feels the FOX has over the S197 are purely from a bias perspective and are either not relevant/significant to real world comparisons, or are not based on any actual fact, but more personal preference.

That is all....FOX lovers, flame away. :)

I never understood these kinds of debates. It's beyond even an apples to oranges debate...it's like apples to tree stumps..it just makes no sense at all. Aside from their namesake and brand, they have absolutely nothing in common aside from being a front engine/rwd ponycar. Arguing worth and value is impossible because one man's garbage is another man's treasure. To one guy, a '50s VW Beetle is the Holy Grail of automobiles, while the other guy is a pure Mercedes Benz or nothing kind of guy and the two will never understand eachother.

Dollar for dollar? You might be able to argue that one. I'm a big fan of the idea of imaging that you have X amount of dollars that a new car would cost you and picture what you could make an older car into for that price, but even that doesn't make sense to some and they'll tell you all about refinement and ride quality and blah blah blah.

It is kinda entertaining to see everyone get bent out of shape about something that really doesn't have a set win or lose.

I'm a fox owner and i love it to death. I wouldn't trade it for any other car! Well lets be reasonable though boys. I've driven many different kinds of stangs. Anything from the old to a new Shelby. I LOVE the Fox and S197. I could careless for anything else besides the Terminator cobra that is. Ford did a awesome job on the new Mustangs. I'm fortunate enough to work for my family owned Dealership and i get to go to the Auto auctions every week(Wed, Thurs). I driven all sorts of different Mustangs. Just last Thursday i drove a BRAND NEW Shelby GT with 27 miles on the clock. And i mean brand new, window sticker, plastic on the seats, everything. Two weeks ago i drove a 2005 Saleen S281. You'd be suprised what shows up at Auto Auctions weekly! I've driven Porchse Boxter(which sucks by the way) Z06's, T/A's, Camaro's, and probably the coolest expierence which was a old roadster ferrari. Now this is only driving down a 1/4 mile test track so. But its fun i tell yah. But anyways, the new mustangs are really something. Ford really did a good job on them. I love the new interior, specially the leather. The 87-93 leather was a joke! My original plan was to build a couple fox body stangs. But now that i've driven the S197, i'm gonna finish my '91 and start a S197 project. I'm going to replicate the new "Super Snake". That is a gorgeous car, truley amazing! So which is better? I'm still gonna say the Fox.

This car is stunning.

Now compare that to this. I know its two completely different things...but damn. You gotta like the new ones alot too!

Looking over this thread there I really don't see alot of people who would disagree with that. Some people, myself for example, may "prefer" the Fox bod but can still acknowledge the advantages the S197 has over them
