Does the lifter tie bar retainer (spider) sit flush with the block when installed and the bolts not yet tighened down? I could only start a few threads and then had to tighten the bolts down to pull the spider down to the block. Is this the way it is?

I only ask because I'm using the FRPP M-6253-A50 'roller cam conversion kit' (spider and tie bars) with a M-6009-B50 short block (2000 explorer 302). The FRPP catalog says that the spider works with 85-96 302's, doesn't say anything about newer 302's. Wondering if this has something to do with the way my spider sits in there...

i don't think this is a problem. the spiders ive messed with may have had a little of this, but i never really payed attention - the bolts are in and tight, it sits where it's supposed to on the lifter retainers - it's all good. It is supposed to have a little spring action so as to put pressure down on the lifter reatiners. I don't think you have a problem
